Career

James was called to the Bar in in 1994. James has 25 years of experience in the maritime law sector. He acts on behalf of both ship owners and banks in the registration and financing of vessels on the Gibraltar Commercial Ships Register. He has advised extensively in relation to the Gibraltar aspects of a number of high profile maritime restructurings in the last year.

He also acts for individual private clients who wish to register vessels on the Gibraltar Pleasure Yacht Registry, negotiating yacht building contracts if required, as well as for banks and leasing companies financing those yachts

Separately, James is extremely experienced in ship arrests, especially on behalf of mortgagee banks and bondholders. He has acted on almost all major admiralty actions in Gibraltar in the last 20 years, including the jurisdiction’s two largest fleet arrests as well as numerous other enforcements. James also acts on behalf of P & I clubs.

James is recognised by several legal directories as a leading invdividual in the Admiralty and Shipping areas.

Triay & Triay works across the board in the shipping sector, with notable experience in vessel and yacht registration, ship financing and admiralty matters. James Ramagge is active for international ship financing banks and leads the practice with Raymond A Triay, who specialises in ship arrests. The firm is assisting Nordic Trustee with the re-organisation of the Sea Trucks Group’s dynamic positioning fleet. In another highlight, the team is advising Standard Chartered Bank on the drafting and registration of a mortgage against the vessel VOS Chablis registered in Gibraltar. Other clients include Aegean Baltic Bank and ING Bank.
