What do you see as the main points that differentiate Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Jaiyos Advisory from your competitors?

Our practice consists of an experienced group of lawyers and legal advisors who provide a full range of corporate, M&A, employment, and commercial legal services to clients. Our legal services team not only assists with legal issues but draws on Deloitte’s multidisciplinary practice to add value by delivering relevant strategic advice and business solutions to clients’ most complex business challenges. By combining the skills of our professionals working within Deloitte’s multidisciplinary environment we provide comprehensive, cost-effective, global reach and deep understanding of each client’s business to provide “one-stop-solutions” to our clients.

Our legal professionals have access to colleagues who can also assist clients with our world-class audit, tax, consulting, enterprise risk management, and financial advisory services. We have proudly served clients in Thailand for decades thereby giving us the ability to offer sound commercial advice based on our deep knowledge of the local market.

Our strengths also include the ability to provide ongoing operational advice on matters such as corporate governance issues, and when required, we can advise on liquidation and dissolution issues.

Which practices in your member firm do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?

We anticipate that corporate, M&A, and commercial practices will experience growth since Thailand and member countries in Southeast Asia Region are promoting investment within the region. We expect more business activities within the region both in the form of start-ups and M&A.

What is the main change you have made in your firm that will benefit clients?

With expansion of the Deloitte Legal network globally, we have increasingly worked with other Deloitte Legal offices in Asia and Europe. This has helped us gain more insight into clients’ needs and businesses and created efficiency in providing our services.

How is technology changing the way you interact with your clients and the services you can provide them?

Digital natives are accustomed to obtaining the information they need online – a trend that is also increasing in our line of business. Apart from the substantial amount of information already presented on our website – such as the legal topics in our monthly Deloitte Legal News – we are now moving toward a more interactive presentation of information about legal topics.

We see a rising interest from our clients in understanding and harnessing the power of state-of-the-art document analysis and document automation tools. While there is no “magic bullet,” significant efficiency gains can be achieved by carefully matching the strengths and weaknesses of the available tools with the concrete task that the client is facing.

Can you give us a practical example of how you helped a client add value to their business?

We often work with other Deloitte business lines, i.e. Tax, Financial Advisory, Enterprise Risk Services and Consulting, to provide a holistic approach to our clients’ business challenges. For example, we provided comprehensive tax and legal advice to clients on the restructuring of group companies. We also conducted legal due diligence in conjunction with tax due diligence and financial due diligence – until the transaction closed. Through these cross-service line engagements, we help clients achieve cost- and project-management effectiveness.

Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms – where do you see the firm in three year's time?

By leveraging the expansion of the Deloitte Legal global network, Deloitte Legal Thailand will try to become the legal service provider of choice for clients in the fields of corporate, M&A, employment, and commercial law. We will work closely with Deloitte Legal in other countries that have a large volume of investors in Thailand (e.g. Japan and China).
