Career

Sophie Jacmain specialises in litigation, in particular corporate, real estate and general commercial litigation.

Sophie is a highly regarded expert in restructuring and insolvency law. She has published several articles on various aspects of restructuring and insolvency proceedings and the structuring of collateral and has taught in these areas at the University of Brussels (ULB). She has also served as a trustee in bankruptcy and is often invited to speak at seminars.

Thanks to her experience and skills, Sophie is able to offer corporate clients and banks (e.g. BNP Paribas Fortis, ING, Aareal Bank, KBC, Electrabel, etc.) top-notch advice and support in relation to general commercial issues, litigation and insolvency-related files. She has also developed strong ties in these areas with private equity funds such as Cobepa, Chequers Capital, the Alpha funds and major Belgian companies including the Artexis Group, Easyfairs Group, Cofinimmo, JCDecaux, etc.

Insolvency litigation is a key strength of NautaDutilh's practice, which also garners praise for its expertise in real estate, financial services, and commercial and corporate disputes. Arbitration is another core area of instruction. Stan Brijs and Sophie Jacmain jointly lead the team, and are representing two Moldovan investors in a dispute with the Republic of Kazakhstan over recovering an arbitral award worth over $500m.

The restructuring and insolvency team at NautaDutilh is frequently instructed by financial institutions, including Deutsche Bank and Euroclear, as well as debtors and corporates, to handle a full range of strategic and contentious matters and transactions. It acted for Parfip Group on its restructuring, which included assisting Parfip France, Parfip Spain, Luxemburg-based Socobail and Parfip Lease in Belgium with obtaining a judicial reorganisation. The team is jointly headed by Sophie Jacmain and Stan Brijs, who are recommended particularly for insolvency advice and litigation respectively. Jean-Luc Hagon left the firm.
