Hakim is Partner in the Litigation & Risk Management Practice Group in Brussels.


Hakim Boularbah specialises in the field of complex and international dispute resolution. His practice covers civil and corporate litigation and arbitration, especially where it presents an urgent or cross-border dimension. Hakim is one of the most renowned specialists of collective redress. He is currently defending the first class actions and follow-on actions brought in Belgium. He also has an extensive practice in enforcement of foreign judgments or awards (especially against sovereigns) and in obtaining interim reliefs and protective measures or resisting to them. Hakim also often acts as arbitrator or counsel in international commercial arbitration.


Hakim started his career at the Brussels Bar in 1996. He worked at Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick between 2003 until 2018 and joined the Litigation and Risk Management department of Loyens Loeff early 2019.


Hakim works in French, English and Dutch.


Professor of Civil Procedure at Liege Faculty of Law, Member of Scientific Committee of the Belgian Commercial Law Journal, Member of IBA, CEPANI and IAI.


Hakim holds a PhD in law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, 2007 and a Law degree from the same university, 1996.

At Loyens & Loeff, the team is representing the National Bank of Kazakhstan in a challenge to a third party garnishment order, as part of an ongoing dispute with two Moldovan investors regarding an arbitral award. Yves Van Couter, who has established expertise in IP and IT litigation, is a key contact. Martine De Roeck was appointed to the judiciary at the Antwerp Commercial Court and senior associate Ahmed Tayane left to join the LRC Group as counsel. In January 2019, the practice was bolstered by the arrivals of the 'heavyweight fighter' Hakim Boularbah and counsel Olivier van der Haegen from Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick.
