Parental leave

As the first law firm in Denmark, we have given equal status to mothers and fathers introducing 6 months (24 weeks) of paid parental leave to all employees in the firm in 2021 (as a benchmark, in 2021 fathers in Denmark in general had the right to take two weeks of paid parental leave within the first 14 weeks after birth). The initiative is not only meant to increase job-satisfaction and give the firm a competitive advantage when it comes to attracting talented employees, but it is also an important step in creating equal opportunities for men and women. With this initiative, Bruun & Hjejle takes a major step towards gender equality, and as such the initiative has attracted substantial attention from the media.

Diversity, inclusion and bias-conscious leadership

To improve our understanding of how to minimise unconscious bias and help diversify the organisation, Bruun & Hjejle have launched a training programme on diversity, inclusion and bias-conscious leadership. The aim of the programme is to create a greater focus on inclusion as to avoid traditional pitfalls in the decision-making process and make conditions favourable for new ideas. As a start, the partners have already participated in the programme.

Partnership with Female Jurists

More women in senior positions and management is an important part of our agenda for the coming years, and with this collaboration we hope to put a wider focus on the matter across the legal industry. In 2022, we also took an important step towards our goal for gender equality in management, as we now have 29% women in our board of directors, after welcoming Henriette Bjerg and Paula Grønlund. Also, we have established a collaboration with the Danish student’s network association “Female Jurists”, a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization focusing on strengthening women’s legal career opportunities.
