Founder partner of Morais Leitão. Chairman of the Portuguese Arbitration Association. Portuguese Member of the International Court of Arbitration of ICC (2016-2018). Chairman of the Portuguese ICC Committee (2015-2016). He plays an active role in international litigation and arbitration proceedings. Heads the Litigation and Arbitration Department. Member of the Superior Council of Magistracy elected by the Assembly of the Republic (2011-2016).


Partner and head of the Litigation and Arbitration Department and co-head of the Intellectual Property team, Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados. Former co-chairman of the firm's board of directors (2004-2012). Former assistant professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon and at the Law Faculty of the Portuguese Catholic University. Former President of the College of Media Studies - Escola Superior de Comunicação Social (1985-1993). Professor at the Postgraduate Programme in Arbitration at the Law Faculty of Nova University of Lisbon.

Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados' 'very strong and consistent' team attracts ‘sophisticated’ work that includes civil, commercial and corporate litigation, and maintains a growing arbitration practice. It represented Sonangol Group in a $2.8bn ICC arbitration regarding alleged shareholders’ agreement breaches. António Pinto Leite led the matter jointly with the ‘excellentFilipe Vaz Pinto. The ‘pragmatic, prepared and assertive’ Francisco Cortez is the other name to note. Miguel Almada left to join Cuatrecasas in December 2018.

Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados is representing former director and shareholder of BES and the Espírito Santo Group, José Manuel Espírito Santo Silva, in a case filed by the liquidation committee handling the BES insolvency, alleging acts of ruinous management by thirteen of the bank’s former directors, leading to its insolvency. Disputes expert Rui Patrício leads the case; Filipe Lowndes Marques and António Pinto Leite head the practice.
