Marisa has been working at ISOLAS for over five years with Partner, Christian Hernandez in matters of corporate finance and in the field of admiralty and shipping amongst other areas. She has worked in large multi-jurisdictional transactions for top banking institutions and has also been instrumental in numerous successful ship arrests acting for both Claimants and Defendants.

Marisa has also developed her practise and works in the area of both ship and yacht registrations and financing, acting regularly for buyers and lenders, an area which is experiencing some growth in the market. In hand with the registrations Marisa assists clients in obtaining ship station licences from the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority for vessels registered at the Gibraltar yacht and ship registry. Marisa has also assist clients seeking to obtain Port Operators licences.

Upon starting at ISOLAS Marisa also assisted Partner Christian Hernandez in matters of trade licences and more recently since the implementation of the Fair Trading Act 2015, Marisa has been working hard in developing the firms of business licencing practise area. Marisa has been instructed by numerous clients who have called on her for her expert legal advice in obtaining a business licences and having licences transfer to new premises. Marisa also has a wealth of experience in advising clients on objections to business licence applications and regularly appears before the Business Licencing Authority at hearings. Marisa also acted for a client of the firms on the first appeal under the new Fair Trading Act taking the matter to the Magistrates Court and she was successful is having the appeal granted.

Marisa is also a fully qualified Accredited Mediator in Civil and Commercial matters and continues to build on her expertise and experience in this field. She is also a fully qualified interpersonal mediator having most recently obtained her practitioner’s certificate as a Certified Interpersonal Mediator and participated in the AIM awards' interpersonal mediation practitioner course in 2014. Marisa is also the only qualified International Online Mediator in Gibraltar. Having obtained these qualifications Marisa has developed excellent skills in helping third parties try to find a resolution to a conflict.

In December 2013 and December 2016 Marisa attended the Lloyds Maritime Academy Ship Arrest Conference as a guest speaker and sat on a working panel of experts discussing ship arrests in the global sphere with greater emphasis on arresting ships in Gibraltar, an area in which she has acquired significant experience in her career to date.

Marisa is a member of the Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats ('AIJA'), an association created for and made up of young lawyers around the globe. Within this organisation she is also active in various working commissions and in 2013 presented a report for the Mergers and Acquisition Commission for the 51st AIJA Annual Congress.

Marisa also recently participated in the organisation and delivery of a 2 day conference in the capital city of Oslo, Norway, focusing on the current challenges in ship and aviation financing. The event was organised as part of a series of global events organised by the Association International de Jeunes Avocats, the International Young Lawyers’ Association (AIJA). In the run up to the Oslo conference, Ms Hernandez assisted in all aspects of preparation and was involved from the outset in assisting the organising team in the preparation of the scientific programme and pinning down the topics of discussions and speakers for the event. Ms Hernandez then went on to moderate a panel on ship and aircraft registration and reflagging with speakers ranging from top London lawyers to in house lawyers for some of the most prominent Norwegian shipping companies.

Marisa is now involved in the organisation of another 2 day conference in the city of Bilbao in September 2017. The organising commissions consists of six lawyers from both the transport law commission and insolvency law commission and the topics of the conference are centred around current trends in international maritime and energy insolvencies.
