Markus Wang is a member of the management board of Bär & Karrer and heads the intellectual property team of the firm. His practice covers a wide range of contentious and non-contentious patent, trademark, copyright and other IP-related issues, in particular in the pharmaceutical, biotech and IT sector. He frequently drafts and negotiates license and R&D agreements. Furthermore, he specializes in regulatory matters in the fields of life sciences and health care.
Markus Wang lectures on intellectual property law at the University of Fribourg. He has written two books on design protection and contributed chapters to the latest commentary on Swiss trademark law and to several books on other IP and IT topics. Further, he has published several articles for periodicals in these fields.
Markus Wang is recognized as a leading practitioner in the field of intellectual property in professional publications and listings such as Chambers Europe, European Legal Experts, WTR 1000: The World's Leading Trademark Professionals and IAM 250: The World's Leading Patent & Technology Licensing Lawyers.

The team assisted Bank Coop with IP issues related to its rebranding to Bank Cler and advised chemicals company Lonza on cross-licensing structures related to its strategic partnership with Sanofi. Volkswagen Truck & Bus, Sanofi and EQT are other active clients. Practice lead Markus Wang is a ‘very experienced lawyer with great expertise’. Pierre-Yves Gunter joined from Python in January 2017.

  • Bär & Karrer Advised the Issuer in the Rights Offering of Cavotec SA

    On 10 January 2019, Cavotec SA completed a capital increase by way of a rights offering to its shareholders in the amount of approximately CHF 22.4 million. The Cavotec group, with its Swiss holding company listed on Nasdaq Stockholm, is a leading engineering group that designs and manufactures automated connection and electrification systems for ports, airports and industrial applications worldwide. 80.5% of the shareholders of Cavotec SA exercised their subscription rights in the rights offering. The remaining new shares not subscribed were allotted to investors who had subscribed for shares without subscription rights, pursuant to the allocation procedure described in the prospectus of 6 December 2018. The offer price was set at SEK 13 per share.
