Hugo Rosa Ferreira, a lawyer specialising in banking and financial institutions, has just joined PLMJ’s banking and finance team, which is coordinated by partner Jorge de Brito Pereira.

Last night in Lisbon, Iberian Lawyer magazine presented the second edition of the ‘40 under Forty Awards', choosing the 40 best lawyers under the age of 40 on the Iberian Peninsula.

Today, 15 September, a group of new trainee lawyers starts work at PLMJ, continuing the sustained growth that PLMJ has enjoyed this year despite the crisis.  We will welcome a team of 18 trainee lawyers, 15 for Lisbon, 2 for Porto and 1 for the Algarve . Most of these trainees have done summer internships at PLMJ so we can be confident that this new programme, set up in 2007, is bearing fruit and is already a success. The new PLMJ trainees have all been recruited from Portugal ’s top law faculties at Universidade Clássica, Universidade Católica, Universidade Nova and Universidade de Coimbra.

PLMJ presents a new generation of Lawyers. The aim of the 20 Young Talents initiative is to introduce PLMJ Lawyers who, along with similarly qualified colleagues, will ensure continuity at the leading Law Firm in Portugal.

PLMJ Sociedade de Advogados (Portugal) and MGA Advogados e Consultores (Mozambique) have constituted an institutional Joint Venture to provide legal services in Mozambique. The formalization of the PLMJ&MGA Joint Venture will be held on the 19^th February in Maputo, together with the presentation of the Guide to Investment in Mozambique, prepared by professionals from both Firms.

José Luís da Cruz Vilaça, Equity Partner heading PLMJ Competition Practice Area and his team have represented 87 companies operating in the tomato industry sector from 5 different European countries (Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Greece) in an historical victory before the Court of First Instance of the European Communities amounting to a compensation to be paid to these claimant companies of a global sum between 24 and 28 million Euro.

PLMJ winner for Portugal of the International Law Office “Client Choice Awards” joins the best top Law  Firms in the world.

In the last years PLMJ has brought a significant number of claims opposing to the collection of Notarial and Registration charges from several companies. Such collection took place following the celebration of Public Deeds and Registration proceedings subsequent to "capital increase operations" and other statutory changes. Such charges' collection is contrary to the provisions of the European Directive on raising of capital.

PLMJ, the largest portuguese law firm, which counts with a History of 40 years, has been considered the best law firm in Portugal by the reputed international legal Editor "Who's Who Legal", an official partner of the International Bar Association and of the American Bar.

 PLMJ had already received the award as leading firm in 2006.

PLMJ assisted Microsoft in the largest acquisition operation of a "new technology" enterprise in Portugal.
