Partner at Sołtysiński Kawecki & Szlęzak. Dr. Olechowski specializes in civil and commercial law, banking and financial services law and regulation; M&A and international arbitration.


Dr. Olechowski joined SK&S in 1996 and, since becoming a partner in 2007, coordinates the firm’s banking and financial regulation practice. He regularly advises clients on complex bank and financial regulatory matters (including acquisitions of qualifying holdings, cross-border provision of financial services, passporting and outsourcing) and represents them in proceedings in front of the Polish financial markets regulator. His transactional experience includes mergers and acquisitions, as well as financing transactions. He has also represented clients in a number of high stakes international commercial and investment arbitrations under Vienna, LCIA, UNICITRAL and ICC rules, as well as in proceedings in front of EU jurisdictions.

He is a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration of Warsaw University (Master’s degree, 1996; Doctorate in Law, 2001), the Warsaw School of Economics (B.A. in International Trade, 1994) and the British Centre for English and European Legal Studies at Warsaw University and Cambridge University (1995, Certificate with distinction). He has been a visiting researcher at the Max-Planck-Institut für Ausländisches und Internationales Privatrecht in Hamburg and at Paris II University, Panthéon-Assas (Boursier du Gouvernement Français).

Financial regulatory work is the focus for Soltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak's team, which predominantly advises banks and investment firms. It is also developing a strong reputation in the payment services sector; senior counsel Wojciech Iwański  and associate Mateusz Blocher are particular names to note in this space. Marcin Olechowski was one of the advisers to ING Bank Śląski on the establishment of a mortgage lender; a matter that included a licensing process before the Polish banking regulator. Another highlight involved assisting Billon with regulatory compliance concerning its blockchain technology banking solution.

The group is regularly instructed by Polish and German corporates. Krzysztof Pawlisz, Piotr Andrzejak and Krzysztof Kanton advised Solaris Bus & Coach on all aspects of a €190m investment into the company by Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles. Dr Marcin Olechowski assisted Globalworth Real Estate Investments with the indirect €138m acquisition of a 68% stake in Griffin Premium RE. Practice head Robert Gawałkiewicz has vast experience in M&A, restructurings and related disputes and arbitration.

Soltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak has competencies in large-scale infrastructure and construction disputes, corporate litigation, bankruptcy and restructuring proceedings, as well as intellectual and industrial property protection matters and unfair competition cases. It also handles the challenge, recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and the enforcement of foreign judgments. Dariusz Skuza successfully represented Budimex in three claims against PKP arising from an agreement for the acquisition by the client of 100% shares in one of the defendant's companies. Dr Marcin Olechowski and Dr hab Andrzej Szlęzak are recommended for arbitration cases, while Professor Stanisław Sołtysiński specialises in civil, commercial and foreign investment law. Construction disputes lawyer Rafał Waszkiewicz took over as head of the team in January 2019.
