Position

Main areas of practice are corporate finance and capital markets, competition law, corporate law, energy law, European law, and litigation and arbitration. Helga has a long standing expertise in the field of competition law and European law and represents clients in a wide array of economic sectors. She has pleaded cases before the Icelandic competition authorities, Icelandic courts, the EFTA Surveillance Authority and the EFTA Court.

Career

Helga joined LOGOS in 2001, after having been with the EFTA Surveillance Authority in Brussels, and was the Managing Partner of LOGOS 2013-2019.

Education

Helga graduated from the University of Iceland with a cand.jur. degree in 1991, and qualified as an Attorney in 1999. She received her LL.M. in European Law and International Law from Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in 1994.

Helga √ďttarsd√≥ttir, who jointly heads the department with¬†Gu√įbj√∂rg Helga Hjartard√≥ttir¬†and London-based Gu√įmundur Oddsson, took the lead in assisting Landsvirkjun with its debut US private placement in green bond format. Th√≥r√≥lfur J√≥nsson¬†advised Kaupthing on the offering of Arion Bank‚Äôs shares in Iceland and Sweden. Benedikt Egill √Ārnason¬†led a team handling complex financing arrangements for S√≠minn and Nordea Bank.

Practice head¬†√ďlafur Eir√≠ksson¬†is leading the team in defending Valitor against a claim regarding a payment gateway, where funds were collected for the whistle-blowing site WikiLeaks. Hj√∂rd√≠s Halld√≥rsd√≥ttir¬†represents S√≠minn in a case against Fjarskipti (Vodafone Iceland) challenging the legitimacy of an injunction in a wider dispute concerning the distribution of a television station owned by the client.
