Position

Stephen is the head of consumer finance. Working as part of the overall banking team at Arthur Cox, he leads a team working out of London and Belfast specialising in all aspects of non-contentious consumer finance, motor finance and medium ticket leasing. It acts for domestic and international banks, finance houses and leasing companies, and provides an intentionally ‘in-house’ style of advice to its clients. The team is very focused on the ‘general’ consumer finance sector, specifically motor finance (which is further split into retail and wholesale finance). Its consumer finance expertise covers all core products, including loans, credit cards, overdrafts and charge cards, but also encompasses niche products such as timeshare and payday lending. Recent work includes acting for: Santander Consumer (UK) plc in connection with its implementation of the Consumer Credit Directive, advising on lending process design, lending products and all other requirements of the CCD; Volkswagen Financial Services (UK) Ltd and Volkswagen Bank GMBH, trading as Volkswagen Bank United Kingdom Branch, in connection with its (multi-brand) dealership funding programme across the UK.
