What is the nature and importance of the mining industry in your country? Presently there are four exploitation licences in Greenland – a gold mine in south Greenland, an olivine mine in west Greenland, a lead and zinc mine also in west Greenland, and a molybdenum mine in east Greenland. At the moment only the gold mine is operating. Generally the mineral exploration activity has increased enormously within the past few years as the world mining community has become increasingly aware of Greenland’s mineral potential.

Nærværende faglige nyhed omhandler ophævelse af vandforsyningslovens § 54. Ændringen er indført for at sikre større hensyn til forsyningssikkerheden og naturen, men får stor betydning for vandforsyningsselskaber, der med lovændringen har mistet deres fortrinsstilling til betaling i forbindelse med tvangsauktioner og konkurs.

A new Mineral Resources Act in the Pipeline
In Greenland, a new Act on Greenlandic Self-goverment came into force on 21 June 2009. This Act ensures that from this date Greenland can take over the administration of most areas from Denmark, including the mineral resource area.
