Benson, Pérez Matos, Antakly & Watts has long enjoyed a pre-eminent position in environment matters thanks to practice head Angela Antakly Heredia. With past experience at the legal department of the Venezuelan ministry of the environment and natural resources, she is also a former president of the environmental matters committee of the Venezuela-America Chamber of Commerce and Industry; her practice covers the full gamut of environmental matters including audits and permitting processes, environmental compliance and due diligence, and contentious administrative and judicial proceedings.

D'Empaire has established itself as a key player in the environmental arena and is valued for its ‘excellent level of service’. The firm continued to advise Nestlé, evaluating the environmental legal risk regarding its factories located across Venezuela and simultaneously developing action plans based on those findings. Francisco Bolinaga has a ‘broad and solid knowledge’ of the environmental sector but Giancarlo Selvaggio Belmonte left the firm to work in-house at Rosneft.

At the recently founded Altum Abogados, S.C., both corporate practitioner María Eugenia Reyes and administrative and regulatory specialist Martha Cohen have noteworthy expertise in environmental matters, ranging from specialised due diligence to compliance and audits.

At Baker & McKenzie, S.C. the departure of Martha Cohen and María Eugenia Reyes has seen IC&T-specialist Manuel Marín and Maria Eugenia Salazar, who has a certain energy focus to her practice and also litigates, take up co-leadership of the office’s environmental practice. Recent matters include assisting a client with the regulatory aspects of the destruction of controlled substances and advising a multinational on its environmental compliance. The team also handles environmental due diligence and draws clients from the consumer goods, mining, and pharmaceutical sectors, among others.
