The team at Arzinger is 'very talented at competition law’. Leading light Timur Bondaryev and partner Lana Sinichkina lead the practice and senior associate Oleksander Dyakulych is also noted. A highlight was defending a global leader in the pharmaceutical industry against allegations of anti-competitive practices.

Practice head Igor Svechkar at Asters is 'a leading antitrust lawyer', and 'competitors are no match for the experience of the practice', according to one client. Alexey Pustovit, Oleksandr Voznyuk and Oleg Boichuk, who was a new arrival from Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners, are key practitioners. Avellum has a strong track record in landmark transactions for Ukrainian and multinational companies. Mykola Stetsenko, Yuriy Nechayev and rising star senior associate Yaroslav Medvediev are the key practitioners. For Karavan Group, the firm obtained merger clearance for the acquisition of Karavan Hypermarket chain by Auchan Group.

Baker McKenzie, Kyiv Office is a leading practice for multinational companies seeking merger control for local or international deals involving Ukrainian subsidiaries. Practice head Oksana Simonova advised Monsanto on its global merger with Bayer. Konica Minolta is another key client. Senior associate Olga Mikheieva is also noted.

Specialist competition firm¬†CLACIS¬†fields ‚Äėvery strong practitioners' in 'a goal-focused team'. Founding partner¬†Antonina Yaholnyk¬†is 'a real professional with deep experience of anti-monopoly legislation'. She advised a leading international payment services provider on negotiations with the¬†Antimonopoly Committee.

'Often seen on high-end assignments and complex transactions', CMS has experienced competition lawyers in Maria Orlyk and Olga Belyakova. For SD Capital, the firm successfully obtained merger clearance for a joint venture with port operator P&O Maritime.

Leading light Galyna Zagorodniuk at DLA Piper Ukraine LLC leads a practice that handles high-profile investigations, litigation and advice on complex and high-value cross-border corporate transactions. For Italian chocolate maker Ferrero, she obtained clearance for the $2.8bn acquisition of Nestlé's confectionery business.

Sayenko Kharenko has 'a responsive and helpful team with excellent knowledge of the law and the process involved in merger filings'. Vladimir Sayenko, Oleksandr Padalka and the 'helpful and responsive' Valentyna Hvozd are the names to note. The firm advised global drinks company AB InBev on its merger with brewing company Efes.

ADS Legal Group joins the ranking for its specialist focus on competition, antitrust and state aid matters. It provides 'unique and high-quality services', and managing partner Oleksandr Bondarchuk has extensive experience. He helped a bank to obtain four authorisations for mergers and acquisitions from the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine.

The team at Dentons 'has no weaknesses', according to one client. Volodymyr Monastyrskyy advised CUB Energy on matters arising from its investment in solar power projects, and assisted Henkel with competition law compliance. Senior associate Oksana Franko, who was a recent hire from Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners, is 'very supportive'.

A market leader in dispute resolution, Ilyashev & Partners also has a strong track record in competition law matters for energy sector clients. Mikhail Ilyashev and Oleksandr Fefelov assisted an oil and gas exploration company with obtaining clearance for the purchase of assets in Scandinavia as part of a major restructuring.

Integrites is 'very good at antitrust law - very experienced and effective'. Clients recommend senior partner Vyacheslav Korchev, who handles complex investigations and merger control cases. He helped Rusal obtain clearance for assets it shares with Glencore to avoid sanctions. Counsel Serhiy Shershun is also noted.

Clients of Kinstellar praise its 'high professionalism, creativity and readiness to go the extra mile'. Counsel Mykyta Nota, who leads the competition and state aid practice, obtained clearance for MET Group's acquisition of Tigáz Zrt. Head of dispute resolution Kostiantyn Likarchuk and associate Daryna Ushchapivska are also recommended.

Legal Alliance Company's work includes landmark cases and investigations in the pharmaceutical sector, notably regarding distribution contracts and marketing agreements with pharmacies. Andriy Gorbatenko advised a leading global pharmaceutical company on antitrust compliance matters.

The practice at Redcliffe Partners is 'extremely responsive and pragmatic'. The firm has 'a young and very talented antitrust team' led by Anastasia Usova, who 'acts in a very skilful and calm manner and has a great future as one of the leading antitrust lawyers in Ukraine'. She advised baked goods distributor Bimbo on the acquisition of East Balt Bakeries.

Recently promoted partner Anna Sisetska leads the practice at Vasil Kisil & Partners, which focuses on investigations of dominance abuse and cartels, as well as merger control. For a major Ukrainian agricultural company, the firm obtained merger clearance for the acquisition of companies with a 10,000-hectare land bank.

At Wolf Theiss, the competition group is led by associate Olga Ivlyeva, who handles merger control and compliance matters. She assisted petrol station and aircraft fuel company Amic Energy Management with compliance issues arising from changes in its corporate structure.

Ante Law Firm is best known for advising aviation sector clients, though it also acts for high-profile companies in the pharmaceutical industry. Andriy Guck defended Sanofi-Aventis against claims of unfair competition practice in the advertisement of a medicine. Lufthansa and British Airways are also among its clients.

Danevych.Law, formerly part of Marchenko Danevych, focuses purely on the life sciences and healthcare sectors. Borys Danevych assists medical device, pharmaceutical and clinical trials companies with competition matters. He advised a leading international pharmaceutical company on compliance matters arising from local distribution agreements.

ECOVIS Bondar & Bondar Law Bureau handles anti-monopoly clearance and high-profile antitrust investigations, primarily in the infrastructure sector. Oleg Bondar and Oleksandra Nikitina are the key contacts. Bondar acted for Ukraine International Airlines in a dispute against Lukoil for violation of competition law.

Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners maintains a small competition law practice, despite much of the team moving to Asters. Oksana Ilchenko is the key contact; she advised Yandex on the competition aspects of its establishment of a joint venture with Uber.

Marchenko Partners, formerly part of Marchenko Danevych, frequently represents companies in cartel, abuse of dominance and unfair competition investigations. Oleksandr Aleksyeyenko acted for Nova Poshta in a state aid case against postal operator Ukrposhta, and for LaFargeHolcim on merger clearance matters.

Oleksandr Peremezhko & Partners joins the table having acted for high-profile clients on merger control matters and investigations. It advised a global toy manufacturer on regulatory compliance matters and acted for vehicle manufacturer Tital in challenging the results of a public procurement procedure.

The dedicated competition practice at Pavlenko Legal Group 'has a strong market position' and partner Denis Maistrenko is 'a brilliant strategist'. The practice is led by new hire Anna Hryshchenko, who joined from Evris and has 'deep expertise'. Eridon Group is among the firm's clients.

Sergii Koziakov & Partners 'really cares about its clients' and joins the ranking this year. Nataliia Isakhanova is 'great at what she does - she knows the law and is comfortable with explaining it' and is a key name for merger clearance matters, investigations and antitrust litigation.
