Allen & Overy provides issuers and underwriters with advice on the whole area of debt capital markets. Headline work included advising HSBC (as arranger) in relation to the refinancing of Sociedad Concesionaria Autovía de la Plata’s A66 Highway project-finance debt facility. Charles Poole-Warren and Salvador Ruiz Bachs lead the team; Juan Hormaechea and Santiago de Vicente are also both noted.

The renowned team at Clifford Chance advised the bondholders committee on the capital markets elements of Abengoa’s restructuring, following the company’s circa €20bn pre-insolvency filing. Yolanda Azanza, José Manuel Cuenca, Eduardo García and Antonio Henríquez are all noteworthy practitioners.

An ‘indisputable leader in the capital market arena’ Cuatrecasas advises local and international clientele on the full range of sector matters including the issue and placement of all kind of debt, warrants, certificates, bonds, convertible bonds and others. The team advised SAREB on bond programme issuances with an aggregate value of €23.46bn. Rafael Mínguez, Jaime de la Torre and Héctor Bros are highly recommended.

A ‘visible actor’ in the capital market sector, Garrigues has vast expertise in high yield transactions and covers the full spectrum of debt and securitisation. Alvaro López Jorrín and Mónica Martín de Vidales lead the group, and Fernando Vives and Gonzálo García-Fuertes are also noted. Recent work includes advising BBVA on the Spanish aspects of several debt security programmes.

Linklaters’ professionals ‘are always available to help clients’ and ‘their quality of service and commitment is second to none’. The team advised Barclays, BBVA and Crédit Agricole on Iberdrola’s issuance of senior equity-linked bonds totalling €500m. Iñigo Berricano, Federico Briano and Jorge Alegre are the key names.

Uría Menéndez has a long-standing presence in the Spanish capital market arena and headline work saw the team advise Banco Santander on the issuance of $1.5bn Tier 2 securities. Rafael Sebastián heads the team and Jaime Pereda, Javier Redonet, Gabriel Núñez and Alfonso Ventoso are all key members of the practice.

CMS Albiñana y Suárez de Lezo has made a name for its advice on securitisation and high-yield bond transactions. César Albiñana leads the team which has been strengthened with the arrival of María Guinot and Curra Munuera both with ample experience in the public regulatory sector. Clients include Deutsche Bank, Telefónica, Novo Banco and Amber Capital.

DLA Piper LLP’s capital markets group advises on an array of products and debt-related transactions with international apects. The ‘respected and knowledgeable’ Ignacio Gómez-Sacha and Iñigo Gómez-Jordana co-lead the team and key recent matters include acting for Banco Santander on its €32bn EMTN programme, and BNP Paribas on a proposed €475m RMBS securitisation. Of counsel Nerea Cemlyn-Jones is noted.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer actively advise issuers and underwriters on Spanish, English and US capital markets law, including liability management, equity-linked and regulatory capital. Armando Albarrán directs the practice, ably aided by Ana López and of counsel Joe Amann. Work highlights include advising the dealers on Metrovacesa’s €2bn Euro medium-term-note (EMTN) programme, and Merlín Properties on its €1bn EMTN programme, to be listed on the the Irish and Luxembourg stock exchanges, respectively.

Gómez-Acebo & Pombo Abogados works for issuers, underwriters, placement banks and investment service providers on complex debt capital market and securitisation transactions both locally and in other jurisdictions. It recently advised Smurfit Kappa on a €500m bond issue to refinance the group’s global debt. Santiago Gómez-Acebo, Fernando Igartua and Angel Varela are recommended.

Latham & Watkins LLP recent work includes advising Campofrío Food Group on a €500m of senior notes issue. Key names include Ignacio Pallarés, José Luis Blanco and Manuel Deó.

White & Case LLP’a recent mandates include advising Alpha Trains on a €1.25bn debt financing. Juan Manuel de Remedios and Yoko Takagi are all highlighted.

Ashurst LLP’s team advised the joint lead-managers (including Banco Santander, Crédit Agricole and Deutsche Bank) on Santander Consumer Finance’s €750m EMTN issue. Fernando Navarro leads the team. Manuel López, José Christian Bertram and Nicholas Pawson are also key members of the practice.

Baker McKenzie advised Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) on a €710m rights issue aimed at reducing the corporation’s indebtedness. Alberto Alonso Ureba, Enrique Carretero and Israel de Diego are all key practice members.

Herbert Smith Freehills houses a dedicated capital markets team led by the ‘experienced’ José Blanco, supported by Alvaro Sainz. Clients include Banco Sabadell, Iberdrola and Talgo.

The capital markets group at Hogan Lovells International LLP is well versed in debt matters. José Luis Vázquez leads the practice.
