The Polish market remains busy with restructurings, providing a number of sizeable deals for lawyers. Standout matters included Vattenfall’s divestment of its Polish assets, the year’s largest Polish energy transaction, which included the PLN4.6bn sale of GZE, Poland’s fifth largest electricity distributor and supplier. The €4.5bn sale of PGE’s stake in mobile telecommunications operator, Polkomtel, was the largest M&A deal in Poland for a decade and it provided work for several law firms. The loans market was characterised by reorganisations and refinancings, and several firms remained involved in such projects during 2011.

Notable developments in the legal market included CMS Cameron McKenna Dariusz Greszta Spólka Komandytowa’s disputes head Pawel Pietkiewicz leaving with several lawyers to join White & Case – W. Danilowicz, W. Jurcewicz i Wspólnicy Kancelaria Prawna sp.K, which also recruited banking and finance practitioners Nicholas Coddington and Tomasz Ostrowski from Clifford Chance. Meanwhile, CMS Cameron McKenna Dariusz Greszta Spólka Komandytowa recruited Baker & McKenzie Krzyzowski i Wspolnicy sp.k.’s Tomasz Koryzma to lead the newly merged IP/TMT practice.
