Advokatfirmaet BAHR AS’s full-service practice advises on corporate issues, maritime financings, insurance issues and disputes. In a recent highlight, Audun Nedrelid assisted Nordea Bank Norge as agent for a bank syndicate with the refinancing of BW Offshore and its subsidiaries; other work includes Haakon Flaatten advising Akofs Offshore on the formation of a joint venture company with Mitsui & Co and Mitsui OSK Lines. Geir Gustavsson leads the team; Rolf Johan Ringdal and Robin Bakken are also key team members.

Advokatfirmaet Schjødt AS’ ‘excellent industry knowledge allows it to provide practical and clear advice’, which makes it ‘a top-tier firm in the market’. The group advises major ship and rig owners including Songa Offshore and Ocean Yield; practice head Henrik Aadnesen assisted the latter with multiple vessel purchases. Amund Bjøranger Tørum handles litigation and Stian Tennfjord advises ship yards.

Advokatfirmaet Simonsen Vogt Wiig’s ‘pragmatic, knowledgeable and solution-oriented team’ counts ‘leading starChristine Rødsæther; ‘talented litigatorFrithjof Herlofsen; Oslo group head Erlend Lous; Jan Vablum, who leads the Bergen practice; and the ‘brilliantChristian Bjørtuft Ellingsen as key practitioners. Hågen Hansen joined the Bergen team from Wikborg Rein.

Advokatfirmaet Thommessen ASreceives high marks across the board for its industry knowledge, exceptional team and commercial approach’ covering litigation, M&A, ship financings and insurance matters. Practice head Mads Haavardsholm is ‘extremely responsive’, Andreas Meidell handles insurance issues, Stephen Knudtzonclearly stands out’ and Henrik Hagberg is ‘highly practical’.

Wiersholm’s ‘completely perfect’ department is led by Kristine Hasle Øverby, who ‘always does a tremendous job and is professional in all respects’ and specialises in ship finance matters. Erik Blaker is the key name for wet shipping mandates, while Erling Lind and Nicolas Brun-Lie are contract experts, and Christian Hauge handles litigation. Karl Even Rygh made partner in 2018.

Wikborg Rein is ‘a top firm in the market’ and has ‘a proactive and structured approach’. The group is jointly led by Gaute Gjelsten and Øyvind Axe, who specialise in litigation and transactional issues respectively. Highlights included advising Solstad Offshore on its merger with Farstad Shipping and Deep Sea Supply, and representing Dolphin Drilling in an arbitration relating to the breach of a rig contract. Morten Lund Mathisen leads the department’s emergency response team.

With Atle Gabrielsen in charge, Arntzen de Beschehas an outstanding practice, which provides a hands-on service and best-in-class response times’. Clients include Teekay Corporation and Shearwater GeoServices; the team advised the latter on the financing and acquisition of four ships from GC Rieber Shipping. Financing expert Trond Kildal attracts praise.

Kvale Advokatfirma DA saw substantial change in 2017 following the recruitment of Lasse Hagen, Kristian Lindhartsen and Jostein Moen from Kyllingstad Kleveland Advokatfirma DA. Lindhartsen and Hagen focus on contentious mandates, and Moen handles transactions and restructurings in the shipping sector.

Litigator Jon Andersen heads Advokatfirma Ræder DA’s practice, which primarily handles cargo-related issues and recovery claims. Clients include Tryg Forsikring NUF, Marine Harvest Norway and Tanux Shipping. Marit Kirkhusmo joined SANDS.

SANDS’ recently established shipping team includes Marit Kirkhusmo and Oddbjørn Slinning as key practitioners; they joined in 2017 from Advokatfirma Ræder DA and Wikborg Rein respectively. Highlights included advising DHT Holdings on vessel sales and acquisitions; Master and Commander and Pareto Securities are also clients.
