Especially active in cartel investigations and other abuse of market dominance work, Rahmat Lim & Partners' practice has longstanding antitrust experience in a wide range of sectors. Group head Raymond Yong acted for MyEG Services in its appeal against MyCC's decision to impose a RM2m fine on the company for applying different trading conditions to equivalent transactions. The department also acts for foreign multinationals on a wide range of matters. Senior associate Penny Wong is highly active in competition work.

Especially active in handling investigations and advising clients on compliance reviews, the department at Shearn Delamore & Co is noted for its strength in depth. Anand Raj, who heads the group jointly with K. Shanti Mogan, acted for a Malaysian company, a European company and a US company – all in the financial services sector – in an investigation by MyCC regarding alleged 'horizontal' infringement. The shipping and logistics sectors are also areas of strength: Raj advised Giga Shipping and Nexus Mega Carriers, both subsidiaries of Giga Maritime Group, on compliance review work.

Well known in the market for its strength in competition work, the team at Tay & Partners frequently handles contentious and non-contentious work, and is experienced in defending clients against regulatory penalties. Group head Tay Beng Chai, who is also the firm's managing partner, successfully represented AirAsia before the Competition Appeal Tribunal in a case against MyCC, which had imposed a RM 10m penalty on AirAsia for alleged abuse of market dominance. Senior associate Nicole Leong is also recommended.

The 'very professional' full-service practice at Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill has excellent strength in depth, with highly active partners as well as 'associates who respond effectively to clients' needs'. The five-lawyer team's client base comprises mostly foreign clients, though large government-linked companies such as Telekom Malaysia also instruct the group on antitrust matters. TMT expert Adlin Abdul Majid heads the practice; Ooi Bee Hong and Eunice Chan Wei Lynn are also active in the space.

Widely respected in the market for his deep expertise of competition law, Chew Phye Keat heads the team at Raja, Darryl & Loh, which leverages its commercial background to give highly commercial advice to clients. Chew acted for Etiqa Insurance, MSIG Insurance (Malaysia), QBE Insurance (Malaysia) and The Pacific Insurance in MyCC's insurance cartel investigation, involving the alleged fixing of trade discounts and labour rates in case of accident repairs. Senior associate Alvin Khoo left the firm to set up a boutique, Alvin Khoo Law Chambers, but commercial and conveyancing expert Wong Quan Sean is increasingly active in antitrust work.

Particularly active in the financial services, pharmaceuticals, shipping and aviation sectors, the group at Skrine welcomed Tan Shi Wen to the partnership. Practice head Janet Looi advised the Shipping Association of Malaysia on its application to MyCC for the renewal of a 2014 block exemption order pertaining to categories of shipping agreements. Khoo Guan Huat represented four insurance companies in MyCC's insurance cartel investigation. The team frequently handles matters relating to abuse of market dominance.

'Impressively knowledgeable' managing partner Andre Gan, who provides 'comprehensive advice' and 'easily breaks down complex areas of law', co-heads Wong & Partners' antitrust department jointly with compliance expert Brian Chia.
