Cobalt stands out for its expertise in complex disputes relating to infrastructure and transport. Department head Rimantas Simaitis is representing a high-profile infrastructure conglomerate in a cross-border arbitration and, alongside managing associate Marius Inta, who leads the commercial disputes group, defends Riga International Airport against anti-competition claims made by a bankrupt Lithuanian air carrier. Public procurement specialist Deividas Soloveičik is representing a subsidiary of Lithuanian Railways in a dispute regarding its status as a contracting authority. Paulius Markovas is the key contact for contentious bankruptcy and restructuring matters.

Ellex is considered ‘one of the strongest in the country’ for cross-border disputes and arbitration. The practice, led by ‘strategic’ department head Vilija Vaitkutė-Pavan and supported by former Supreme Court judge Egidijus Baranauskas, acted for Orlen Lietuva in a multimillion-euro dispute against Lithuanian Railways; the former sought to recover overpayments for the carriage of goods. Associate partner Miroslav Nosevič excels in contentious banking and finance mandates (including for new client East Capital), and the ‘effective yet understanding’ Darius Bugailiškis and senior associate Giedrė Aukštuolienė are well regarded.

Motieka & Audzevicius is vastly experienced in international and multijurisdictional disputes and its lawyers are ‘leaders on the battlefield’, with ‘a deep understanding of business needs’ and ‘a remarkable devotion to achieving results’. Co-head Ramūnas Audzevičius, who leads the firm’s representation of Global Energy Consulting in an investor-state arbitration against the Republic of Lithuania, is ‘a brilliant and creative litigant’; and ‘the lawyer you want by your side in times of uncertainty’. ‘Top-class’ fellow co-head Jovitas Elzbergas excels in real estate litigation, while ‘knowledgeable’ associates Tomas Samulevičius and Valentas Mitrauskas, and senior associate Rimantas Daujotas are also recommended. Mantas Juozaitis is the name to note for tax disputes.

Utilising its strength as a fully-integrated pan-Baltic firm, Sorainen is highly active in contentious bankruptcy and customs cases. ‘Star litigator’ Kęstutis Švirinas acts for new client Alfa Bank in a dispute with a debtor over invalid contracts, and the ‘talented’ Žygimantas Pacevičius is representing now bankrupt bank Snoras in a civil case against its former shareholders. Public procurement specialist Laurynas Lukošiūnas, who was promoted to partner in 2017, represented Hitachi Zosen Inova and Abener in a court dispute against a contracting authority pertaining to a complex construction tender. Renata Beržanskienė is also recommended.

The team at TGS Baltic handles a strong mix of banking, shipping and investment disputes. Alongside an international law firm, Vilius Bernatonis is representing the Vilnius city municipality in an investor-state arbitration with Veolia Environnement; the case has been brought in parallel with a claim against the Republic of Lithuania by Veolia Environnement where the firm is also representing the defendant. Bernatonis, along with senior associate Albertas Šekštelo, also acts for Snoras in its claim against Meinl Bank over breached AML requirements. The ‘vastly experienced’ Valentinas Mikelėnas and Lina Darulienė, respective heads of the arbitration and litigation practices, are well regarded.

Glimstedt Bernotas & Partners’ group is skilled in handling commercial, corporate and contractual disputes. Practice head Solveiga Palevičienė and senior associate Renata Jankutė represented new client MG Baltic Investment in a compensation claim against the director of one of its subsidiaries. Jonas Masiokas is the key name for contentious IP and insurance matters.

In addition to handling contentious bankruptcy and public procurement cases, the team at Leadell Balčiūnas & Grajauskas, led by Gintaras Balčiūnas and managing partner Marius Grajauskas, is representing Achema in multiple disputes against the state of Lithuania concerning a recently built liquefied natural gas terminal and the resulting levy which was imposed on all natural gas consumers in the country. Associate partner Rytis Paukštė is another notable figure.

Magnusson’s recent litigation work covers real estate, bankruptcy and public procurement matters. Kaunas-based practice head Evaldas Rapolas and Marius Endzinas are representing Violeta Gureckienė in a complex CEO-liability dispute against Mitnija and MG Baltic Investment; the companies seek damages resulting from business transactions overseen by the defendant’s late spouse. Marius Liatukas handles white collar-crime disputes.

At Primus, Attorneys at Law, managing partner Robert Juodka is defending Ergo Insurance against a claim brought by Maxima Latvia and Tineo regarding the policy under which the Maxima Zolitude supermarket store was insured; the building fatally collapsed in 2013. The firm is also active in insurance and shareholder disputes, which are overseen by practice head Marius Devyžis and senior associate Martynas Kalvelis.

Averus’ strong pedigree in shipping and transport mandates has seen ‘precise and convincing’ maritime specialist and practice co-head Regina Derkintytė-Kaupienė representing PC Lithuanian Shipping Company in disputes arising from its bankruptcy, including insurance and damage claims. Fellow co-head Raimondas Kivylius, who is based in Klaipeda, is the go-to contact for contentious tax matters. Laura Čereškaitė-Kinčiuvienė and senior associate Ervinas Rimdeika are the key names in Vilnius; the latter is acting for new client Lloyd’s of London.

bnt attorneys in CEE has a strong focus on cross-border mandates and its lawyers are particularly adept at handling insolvency and logistics liability disputes. The team, which provides ‘pragmatic and thoughtful’ advice, is representing new client Vertiqal in a multijurisdictional payment dispute against the guarantor of one of its Lithuanian customers. ‘Business-sensitive’ Frank Heemann and fellow co-head Mindaugas Navickas are highly recommended.

Baranauskas & Partners Hansa Law Offices’ team excels in litigation across the contentious finance and credit spectrum. Its lawyers, namely the ‘reliable’ Dalius Baranauskas and Vidas Vilkas, are ‘appreciated within the Lithuanian banking sphere’; the firm represents the Bank of Lithuania in a dispute with a bankrupt financial institution’s creditors.

Dominas Derling’s managing partner and practice head Gediminas Dominas is defending the CEO of a large listed company against an intricate minority shareholder claim. The firm’s other clients include Reckitt Benckiser and Grand Cru Airlines.

Managing partner Jonas Saladžius leads the team at Eversheds Saladžius (a member of Eversheds Sutherland), which has been active in IP and product liability disputes for its roster of technology companies; including Samsung and Rovio. Senior associate Dainius Čičelis is another key figure.

Law firm J. Judickiene and Partners Jurex’s 20-lawyer-strong disputes team has particular expertise in shareholder and corporate disputes. ‘Deeply knowledgeable’ managing partner Jurgita Judickienė and new arrival Ignas Dargužas, who joined from Sorainen, ‘are litigators of the highest quality’. The firm also welcomed attorney at law Olga Siomina from Law Firm Pavlov & Partners. Associate partner Kęstutis Žičkus and Marius Tamošiūnas are also recommended.

Triniti adroitly handles contentious IP, commercial and real estate matters. Past clients include Crocs and Elektrum Lietuva. Practice head Vilija Viešūnaitė and associate partner Aurelija Rutkauskaitė lead on trade mark and copyright disputes, while associate partner Justina Stucka is also noted. Deivis Valiulis is the key contact for real estate-related disputes.

Ecovis ProventusLaw’s Loreta Andziulytė successfully defended Telecentras against abuse of dominance and discrimination claims. Practice head Kęstutis Kvainauskas and Inga Karulaitytė-Kvainauskienė are well regarded.

Managing partner Andrius Mamontovas and Mindaugas Kiškis at Fortcan find solutions in even the most hopeless situations’; the former is representing 262 claimants in a class action against the state company Deposit and Investment Insurance. Senior associate Mantas Meizeraitis is the key figure for public procurement litigation.

The practice at Šulija Partners Law Firm Vilnius is led by the ‘skilled’ Vytautas Šulija and has been active in contentious deportation and competition matters, as well as aviation and shipping insurance disputes. Gintautas Šulija is ‘able to think outside of the box’ and senior associate Eduard Plešak is also recommended.

TVINS’ ‘creative’ group has sector strengths in agribusiness, insurance mediation and insolvency. ‘Innovative’ managing partner Tomas Talutis, supported by the ‘diplomatic yet quick-thinking’ Vytautas Šenavičius and senior associate Andrius Mažutis is representing Agrovet in a series of disputes with creditors which oppose its restructuring process.

Vilgerts’ department head and expert in competition law Raimundas Moisejevas is representing the Lithuanian Ministry of Energy in disputes pertaining to allegations of illegal state aid. Jūratė Kūgytė joined the firm in 2017 from TGS Baltic.
