Cobalt provides a full range of contentious and non-contentious employment-related services. The team, including employment and immigration practice head Toms Sulmanis, is ‘very business-oriented, and provides the whole scope of legal risks and risk assessments. Alongside senior associate Kristine Patmalniece, Sulmanis was instructed by UK-based immigration boutique Fragomen LLP on obtaining residence and work permits for employees of various international companies.

Ellex is considered to be ‘one of the best business law firms in Latvia’, with a team whose ‘recommendations are really valuable and precise’. It takes on large-scale contentious and non-contentious employment mandates with cross-border aspects. Irina Kostina and Andris Lazdiņš come highly recommended, as does senior partner Daiga Zivtina. In recent work, it advised EcoLab Group on all aspects of its reorganisation involving terminations and variations to work contracts.

Sorainen serves clients such as Nordea Bank, SAP Danmark and OSM Aviation Management on areas including employee terminations, redundancies and corporate restructures, as well as workplace safety and data privacy issues. Managing partner Eva Berlaus and senior associate Andis Burkevics assist Vitabalans on all of its day-to-day employment matters.

Eversheds Sutherland Bitāns has a focus on contentious employment matters. Associate partner Māris Logins acted for Samsung Electronics Baltics in cases where employees challenged the termination of their employment.

Primus, Attorneys at Law’s team is appreciated for its ‘quick responses and well-drafted documents’, and for being ‘highly professional and approachable’. BDO Law provided advice to the Latvian Olympic Committee on a variety of employment issues. Managing partner Vita Liberte is assisting the Temporary Employment Agencies Association of Latvia with negotiations with other partners on amendments to labour legislation.

Klotini & Sergis has a focus on employment disputes in industries including airlines, healthcare and construction. Under the leadership of Ivo Klotiņš and Pēteris Serģis it has provided ‘invaluable help’ and Klotiņš is noted for ‘having an excellent knowledge of employment law, and a practical, grounded approach. It has represented an airline in complex litigation concerned with an employee dismissal and assisted a hospital with the negotiation of employment contracts.

Kronbergs Čukste Derling’s Valters Kronbergs is the key contact for all employment and immigration matters. Senior associate Normunds Orols is part of the team acting for clients such as DHL Latvia on employment and immigration issues, and for Bridgestone on hiring and termination matters.

Leadell Fogels, Vitols & Paipa assisted Satema Baltic with the various issues relevant to workforce reorganisation and reduction. Senior associate Ilze Jankeviča, who is ‘is well versed in labour law’, advised Autovista Poland on the separation of employment and service agreements and related taxation matters. Managing partner Kārlis Vītols is a key contact.

Rödl & Partner provides assistance with day-to-day employment matters such as employment contracts and work safety compliance as well as disputes.
