Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has been active in disputes relating to contractual litigation, insolvency and bankruptcy, infrastructure matters and demerger issues. The team is well known for its established track record appearing before the Supreme Court, regional High Courts, domestic and international arbitral forums, and regulatory tribunals. Managing partner Cyril Shroff heads the practice, in which Indranil D Deshmukh and Gauri Rasgotra are names to note. Percival Billimoria has left the firm and is now counsel.

At Dua Associates, the team is representing the Dow Chemical Company and Union Carbide Corporation before the Supreme Court of India in ongoing proceedings involving compensation sought by the Union of India and non-governmental organisations via a curative petition; the litigation pertains to the outcome of an industrial disaster in Bhopal in 1984. Shiraz Patodia is the key name.

Naresh Thacker is the main name at Economic Laws Practice The team is representing the Multiplex Association of India in a challenge to the government of Karnataka's Kannada & Culture department's imposition of a price cap on all films shown in theatres; the challenge is on the grounds that the government does not have the power to regulate prices set by private entities. Ashish Prasad is another name to note.

The team at HSA Advocates handles construction, real estate, power, financial services and energy disputes for large corporations, individuals and foreign-owned enterprises. The team's client base includes Cotton Corporation of India, ReNew Power and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. Founding partner Hemant Sahai and managing partner Amitabh Sharma are the key names to note. The firm has recently appointed former Sterlite Power Grid Ventures in-house counsel Apoorva Misra as a partner, while Shreshth Sharma (former Jindal Steel and Power in-house counsel) and Nitish Gupta (former DSK Legal principle associate) have been recruited as associate partners. J Sagar Associates reports an uptick in disputes relating to power projects. As an example, the team represented Larsen & Toubro in arbitration proceedings against the Indian Oil Corporation relating to an EPC contract for constructing a captive power plant. The group is representing Microsoft (India) in a public interest litigation before the Supreme Court regarding alleged misuse of online platforms and applications. Commercial litigation expert Farhad Sorabjee heads the practice, and Dhirendra Negi has particular expertise in construction litigation. Amar Gupta is also recommended.

Kachwaha & Partners' dispute resolution practice is a cornerstone area of strength for the firm. The team is adept at handling litigation and arbitration matters, notably in the construction, banking and commercial sectors. Kochhar & Co.'s 'practical and solution-oriented' team has 'detailed knowledge' of commercial, infrastructure, banking, and oil and gas-related disputes. Krishna Vijay Singh is acting for the National Bank of Fujairah in four civil suits relating to recovery of outstanding debts from guarantors, who had provided personal guarantees in case of default of repayment. Nishant Menon and Manish Dembla are other key names to note.

L&L Partners Law Offices' team is adept at handling the full range¬†of commercial litigation, and is noted for its extensive expertise in international commercial arbitrations. Recent work includes acting for Felguera Gruas India in a contractual dispute relating to non-payment of dues and claims for damages. Rajiv Luthra¬†and H S ‚ÄėBobby‚Äô Chandhoke¬†are key names.

Manilal Kher Ambalal & Co Advocates, Solicitors and Notary has particular strength in representing clients from the financial services sector in disputes. Sachin Chandarana is the key name and clients include Citibank and L&T Finance.

Vyapak Desai heads the team at Nishith Desai Associates, which is highly regarded for its expertise in complex cross-border disputes, and handles company and commercial litigation for clients in the financial, technology, construction, oil and gas, media, and healthcare sectors.

Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co's 'proactive' team demonstrates 'in-depth industry knowledge' of the dispute resolution arena, and has a strong track record appearing before Indian courts in high-profile disputes. Managing partner Pallavi Shroff heads the practice, and Tejas Karia is noted for his expertise in international arbitration. Nitesh Jain 'has sound knowledge of the industry and understands its nuances'.

Singhania & Partners LLP has a notable track record representing clients at all levels of the Indian judiciary in cases involving regulatory enforcement, preventative compliance, and arbitrations across a range of sectors. Construction disputes have been particularly prominent in the team's recent workload. Managing partner Ravi Singhania is the key name, and senior partner Shilpa Shah leads the Bangalore practice.

Trilegal's team is particularly active in projects, TMT, commercial and competition disputes, and recently defended ICIC Bank in litigation with four Educomp companies over the repayment of two loans under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Code (2016). Sitesh Mukherjee leads the group, in which Shankh Sengupta is a key contact for commercial and white-collar crime matters.

Atul Dua is the key individual at Advaita Legal, which has notable experience in commercial, insolvency, employment, and technology disputes.

ALMT Legal has seen an increase in instructions from private clients, as well as from the insurance and shipping sectors. The team is adept at handling civil and criminal litigation for clients from a broad cross-section of industries, and is noted for appearing frequently before all levels of the Indian courts. Sameer Tapia and Prashant Popat are the key practitioners. Hitesh Jain moved to Juris Corp.

AZB & Partners' 'excellent' disputes practice is well known for representing clients before the High Court and Supreme Court of India. Clients have included Tata Sons, Harper Collins Publishers (India), and Kochi Cricket. Senior partner Rajendra Barot attracts praise for his 'good commercial mind' and 'thorough knowledge of Indian law'.

Bharucha & Partners has a strong client roster of companies from the telecoms, real estate and environment sectors. Recent disputes instructions include representing the Collage Group in relation to real estate development projects undertaken with the Unitech Group and the applicability of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act 2016. MP Bharucha is the name to note. Abhishek Malhotra left the firm in early 2019 to become the managing partner or TMT Law Practice.

At Dhir & Dhir Associates, recent work includes representing the Save Avali Trust in an objection against the construction of an abattoir in Faridabad, on the grounds that the information provided for the construction was misrepresented. Simbhaoli Sugars is another recent client. Managing partners Alok Dhir and Maneesha Dhir are notable disputes practitioners, and Sachin Gupta heads the practice.

C Rashmikant heads the practice at Federal & Rashmikant, which is well known for handling real estate and environment sector disputes on both a domestic and cross-border level. Update: On 1 January 2019, Federal & Rashmikant officially dissolved, with named partner Rashmikant forming Rashmikant and Partners while MS Federal and Murtuza Federal launched Federal & Company.

Rustam Gagrat is the key individual at Gagrats, where the practice is noted for its strength in international commercial arbitration; the team has recently handled matters for clients in the real estate, defence, and aviation sectors.

Recent work highlights at Hariani & Co., Advocates and Solicitors includes representing Sea Kunal Corporation in a dispute against the state of Maharashtra over the redevelopment premium charged by the Collector of Mumbai. The team is also acting for Metal Power Analytical in litigation regarding insolvency proceedings. Ameet Hariani is the name to note.

LexCounsel has seen a recent uptick in insolvency and property-related disputes; for example, the team represented Luxconsult (Mauritius) before the Delhi High Court in a dispute regarding the construction of a university in Mauritius. In another matter, the group acted for Horseshoe Entertainment in a contractual dispute with a joint venture partner. The 'very responsive' Alishan Naqvee heads the practice, and Rupal Bhatia is also recommended.

The team at Link Legal - India Law Services recently represented Delhi International Airport in arbitration proceedings against the Airports Authority of India, and acted for Axiom Cordages in a dispute regarding a shareholders agreement with a private equity investor. Akil Hirani and Neerav Merchant jointly head the disputes practice at Majmudar & Partners, which is acting for Ramko Builders in a contractual dispute under the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme, and, in another matter, is advising an electrical machinery manufacturer on the enforcement of an ICC arbitral award. SABIC UK Petrochemicals, Axis Bank and Punjab National Bank are other notable clients.

Shardul Thacker is the main name at Mulla & Mulla & Craigie Blunt & Caroe, which has notable expertise in handling high-stakes arbitration for clients from the infrastructure, construction and power sectors. On the litigation side, the team has been handling disputes from the shipping sector.

Phoenix Legal reports an increase in aviation and bankruptcy and insolvency disputes; in one example, the team is representing the Federation of Indian Airlines in a public interest litigation concerning aviation regulations. Key names in the team include Jyoti Singh, who handles shareholder disputes, insolvency and bankruptcy, and debt recovery matters; Mrinal Ojha, whose areas of expertise include construction and engineering matters; and Trinath Tadakamalla, who is noted for representing clients from the engineering, energy, and insurance sectors.

Founding partner Manoj Singh¬†heads the practice, in which Nilava Bandyopadhyay¬†and¬† Vijay Singh¬†are the names to note at Singh & Associates Founder ‚Äď Manoj K Singh Advocates and Solicitors. The disputes practice is adept at handling the full spectrum of disputes across a broad cross-section of sectors, including commercial, shipping, pharmaceutical and real estate industries.¬†Key clients include Novartis, Themis Medicare, and Mahesh Industries.

Tuli & Co's practice provides a 'top-class service' and 'sound legal advice'. The firm has seen an increase in arbitration proceedings, mainly for clients from the insurance, banking and financial institutions sectors, and is adept at handling litigation for a broad range of sectors. Recent work includes representing IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Company before the Supreme Court in a dispute against  Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers and Chemicals regarding insurance policy losses. Rajat Taimni and Neeraj Tuli are recommended.

Hiroo Advani, Shashank Garg and Asif Lampwala are the names to note at  Advani & Co. The team's key strengths lie in international and domestic arbitration, civil disputes, and corporate and commercial litigation. The group is noted for appearing in petitions against the Indian government, and representing clients before a range of institutions, including International Chamber of Commerce, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, and the London Court of International Arbitration.

BRUS CHAMBERS, Advocates & Solicitors' disputes team is 'prompt, straight to the point' and 'up-to-date on industry knowledge'. The firm has notable strength in assisting clients with enforcing foreign arbitral awards in India; recent work includes advising ONGC Videsh on an arbitration claim against the government of Sudan for recovering unpaid oil dues. Binita Hathi and Shrikant Hathi are the key practitioners.

Managing partner Anand Desai heads the 'excellent' practice at DSK Legal which has been especially active in the arbitration space, representing clients from the infrastructure, media, financial services, and real estate sectors. Amritha Ahuja heads the practice at JBSS & Co, which frequently appears before the Bombay High Court in a range of high-stakes matters for domestic and overseas clients.

Raian Karanjawala and Manik Karanjawala are the practice co-heads at Karanjawala & Company, which has established expertise in handling High Court and Supreme Court litigation.

Keystone Partners ' 'excellent' team provides 'comprehensive, consistent and quality advice' on disputes across a range of sectors. Pradeep Nayak is a key practitioner. A major highlight for the group was representing 20 LGBT students of the Indian Institutes of Technology in a public interest litigation before the Supreme Court of India regarding the constitutional validity of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.

P & A Law Offices is well known for representing clients in competition-related disputes before the Competition Commission of India; technology and infrastructure-related disputes are another key area of instruction for the team. Anand Pathak is the main practitioner of note.

Niti Dixit is the key name at S&R Associates, where the team has been handling bilateral investment treaty claims, as well as competition, insolvency,  joint venture and shareholder disputes. Arbitration proceedings are another key area of instruction for the group.

Clasis Law is noted for representing clients from the shipping, infrastructure, financial services, retail and automobile sectors, across a range of disputes. Mustafa Motiwala and Shwetabh Sinha are the names to note.
