The team also acted for Reliance Aerostructure Limited and Thales India Private Limited in pre-merger notification matters on the companies' formation of a joint venture in the defence and aerospace sector. It also assisted with notification to the CCI prior to the merger of British American Tobacco and R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. The department is jointly led by 'creative thinker' Manas Kumar Chaudhuri and Arshad (Paku) Khan. Changes to the team include Avaantika Kakka's departure to Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas.

The competition law practice at L&L Partners Law Offices is instructed by domestic and international clients on a range of issues. The team represented Bayer on its $63.5bn reverse triangular acquisition of Monsanto, including preparing notice of the transaction to the CCI and responding the subsequent queries. GR Bhatia led a team instructed by Jaiprakash Associates in an appeal before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal challenging the fine imposed by the CCI for alleged cartelisation by cement companies. The competition team at Advaita Legal successfully represented Bharti Airtel before the High Court of Bombay in challenging the jurisdiction of the CCI to investigate cartelization and abuse of dominance in the telecoms sector. In another work highlight, the group is acting for Builders’ Association of India against Cement Manufacturers Association and 11 cement manufacturers, alleging cartilisation.

Boasting 'good knowledge and quality advice', AZB & Partners' competition team has significant expertise handling cartel investigations, abuse of dominance allegations and leniency investigations in addition merger control matters. The group is representing Toyota Kirloskar Motor before the Supreme Court in an appeal of penalties imposed for alleged abuse of dominance on grounds of procedural impropriety, as well as on substantive competition law and economic grounds. Samir Gandhi led a team acting for Google in investigations by the CCI into alleged anti-competitive conduct. In another work highlight, the group was instructed by Bharti Airtel and Telenor (India) Communications on the companies' merger. Mumbai-based Rahul Rai is another key name to note. Changes to the team include the addition of Prashanth Shivadass from Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan.

The competition and antitrust practice at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas utilities its 'deep domain knowledge and understanding of India and overseas case law' to advise on a range of issues from enforcement to merger control matters. A team is representing Schott Glass India in abuse of dominance proceeding before the Supreme Court. The group also advised Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India in allegations of abuse of dominance before the CCI. It continues to act in an appeal led by the BCCI before the NCLAT, challenging the decision. Bharat Budholia led representation of Flipkart in several matters including on investment from Tencent and eBay requiring separate merger control notifications. The competition practice at Dua Associates was instructed by the Dow Chemical Company to assist with merger control matters relating to its combination with E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company. In another work highlight, the team successfully defended Power Grid Corporation of India Limited in allegations of abuse of dominance. Robin David led a team which acted for the CCI in relation to allegations of cartelisation by suppliers of fans to the Indian Railways. This matter involved issues of leniency following a reduction in penalty imposed on one supplier followings its disclosure regarding existence of the cartel. Shashivansh Bahadur, Sita Khosla and senior partner Kunal Mehra are key names to note.

The competition law and policy group at¬†Economic Laws Practice¬†frequently handles competition issues before the CCI, as well as having experience in merger control matters. The team also frequently advises companies on competition and merger control elements of transactions. The department is jointly head up by Rustam J Gagrat and Sheetal Sabnis in Mumbai and New Delhi-based Ujjwal Rana.

The competition and antitrust practice at J Sagar Associates, headed up by Amitabh Kumar, successfully defended ACI Worldwide in an abuse of dominant position allegation. It is also representing Hyundai Motor India before the Madras High Court in a case challenging the jurisdiction of the CCI. In the merger control space, the team acted for China National Chemical Corporation in relation to its global acquisition of Syngenta, valued at $44bn.

Reeta Mishra boasts particular experience in antitrust and competition litigation.

Vinod Dhall heads up the competition practice at Talwar Thakore & Associates which is instructed by national and multinational companies on a range of complex matters. The group boasts expertise advising clients in the pharmaceuticals, media, petrochemicals and energy sectors. Associate Sonam Mathur is another key name to note, with particular experience handling merger control matters.

The 'well-rounded competition practice' at Trilegal¬†has an 'impressive track record' in acting on a range of matters from enforcement and merger control advice to audits and compliance projects. The competition team at Chandhiok & Mahajan, Advocates and Solicitors has experience assisting clients with antitrust allegations, merger control matters and compliance advice. Karan Singh Chandhiok heads up the group which also includes Vikram Sobti and Kalyani Singh.
