Leading individuals

The ‘excellent’ three-fee-earner team at Andrékó Kinstellar is noted for its ‘high level of expertise’. It advised a consortium of banks on the largest acquisition financing of 2009 (CVC’s acquisition of Anheuser-Busch Inbev’s brewery assets in the CEE region), and also acted for a consortium of major international banks (including BNP Paribas and RBS) in a €750m Eurobond issue by oil giant MOL. Other clients include Morgan Stanley, HSBC and Thomas Cook. Team head Gábor Antal is an ‘excellent’ lawyer and is ‘thorough and responsive, with broad knowledge’.

Recent clients of the three-fee-earner team at Gide Loyrette Nouel include Danone and a major international investment adviser.

The ‘knowledgeable’ Pál Jalsovszky heads Jalsovszky Law Firm’s ‘excellent, business minded’ team, which was bulked up in 2010 with the arrival of associate Mihály Harcos from Faludi Wolf Theiss. The team provides day-to-day taxation advice to Diego and the Delphi Group, while other clients include RAG Hungary and Upstream.

Gergely Riszter leads the team Kajtár Takács Hegymegi-Barakonyi Baker & McKenzie, which recently advised a major US car manufacturer on a significant tax controversy matter. It also advised an electronics company on the restructuring of its business, and continues to represent a major US-based agricultural business.

Lakatos, Köves and Partners’ tax team is led by István Keményfy, who recently advised GDF Suez on its employee share plan. It also acted on the structuring of Kimberley Clarke’s toll management arrangement, and advised Alcoa and Thompson Reuters.

The ‘knowledgeable’ Orsolya Bárdosi heads up the ‘masterful’ team at Réczicza White & Case LLP. It advised renewable energy investor EETEK Holdings on the implementation of a complex business structure, and also acted for US-based broadcast platform company Ustream Inc.

The four-fee-earner team at CMS Cameron McKenna LLP has been busy with some complex insurance tax work. It also advised Samsung Electronic on day-to-day tax matters, and major US aircraft leasing company Jackson Square Aviation on the tax aspects of leasing aircraft to Wizzair, a popular Hungarian line.

At Faludi Wolf Theiss, new team head Balázs Békés has led matters for a Netherlands-based entertainment content giant since he joined in 2009. The team also advised a major Hungarian fuel provider on the domestic tax allowance. EKZ-6 Kft, a subsidiary of the ECE Group, is another recent client.

Horváth & Partners DLA Piper has been busy handling work for Beckman Coulter, Adobe Systems and Malév Hungarian Airlines. Ákos Becher heads the department, which grew with the arrival of associate Dávid Bosznay from Ernst & Young.

Tax is a key area for Nagy és Trócsányi, where the team is experienced in tax litigation and has also been busy with transaction structuring matters. Practice head Péter Nagy has recently been advising major gas supplier EMFESZ Kft.

Noerr & Partners Law Office provides tax restructuring and financing advice to major corporates, including leading steel producers and international entertainment companies.

Réti, Antall & Madl Landwell regularly handles tax-related litigation.

Szabo Kelemen & Partners Attorneys’ tax practice has a strong reputation. The firm has a longstanding relationship with Ernst & Young Hungary, and focuses on tax litigation, regularly acting for multinational companies in the Hungarian Supreme Court. Domonkos Kiss is a well-known figure.

bpv Jádi Németh Ügyvédi Iroda has a wide-ranging practice including fund structuring and tax planning for international clients.

Practice head Kamilla Kátó at Katona & Partners Attorneys at Law has overseen some complex tax work recently. Clients include the subsidiary of a major Austrian car distributor.

    Government Emergency Ordinance no. 58 (the “Ordinance”) for the amendment and completion of Law no. 571/2003 regarding the Fiscal Code (the “Fiscal Code”) and other fiscal-financial measures was published in the Official Gazette of Romania, Part I no. 431 of June 28, 2010. The Ordinance shall enter into force on July 1, 2010.
