Leading individuals

Andrékó Kinstellar attracts some impressive competition instructions. The ‘helpful and experienced’ Ádám Máttyus leads the five-strong team, which continues to advise MasterCard Europe as well as handling a high-profile cartel case for 3M before the Hungarian Competition Office. It is also advising Microsoft on a significant compliance review. The team is noted for its ‘fast response time’ and ‘high-level customer service’.

Kajtár Takács Hegymegi-Barakonyi Baker & McKenzie has a ten-strong competition team led by Zoltán Hegymegi-Barakonyi, and provides a ‘fair and excellent’ service. It advised the Hungarian subsidiary of a major Belgian bank in a cartel case, as well as advising one of the largest telecoms companies in Hungary. Peter Voros is noted for his ‘timely knowledge and good negotiation skills’.

Gábor Fejes leads the practice at Oppenheim, which is valued for its ‘excellent response times and very good communication skills’, and has seen cartel instructions on the increase, recently advising Pannonmill on two cartel inquiries as well as successfully defending Canon Hungary in a cartel matter. Gábor Fejes is highly regarded for his ‘excellent legal skills’, and principal associate Zoltán Marosi is commended for his ‘good communication and client-handling skills’.

At Réczicza White & Case LLP, the arrival of the former head of the Hungarian Competition Council, Tihamér Tóth, was a significant boost for the practice. It advised new client Nu Skin Easter Europe Kft on several matters, as well as long-term client Invitel. It is noted for its ‘professional advice’.

CMS Cameron McKenna LLP has a stable four-fee-earner competition team, whose recent work includes advising Ceres, the bread making company, in relation to cartel proceedings. The team, led by Dóra Petrányi, took over a case for Primagáz Zrt as well as advising Provera, Cora, Csemege-Match and Profi. Office head Gabriella Ormai is also noted for her part in the practice.

Lakatos, Köves and Partners has advised Nokia concerning certain antitrust issues and copyright levies, and also advised Suez Environment. Péter Lakatos is the lead partner.

Nagy és Trócsányi handles cartel cases, and also has experience in merger clearance cases.

Recent work for Noerr & Partners Law Office includes advising on an abuse of dominant position case, and advising a major aerospace company.

Partos & Noblet in co-operation with Hogan Lovells International LLP has benefited from the new firm’s very strong transatlantic connections. It has been active on a number of antitrust matters, and represented infrastructure company Alstom before the Supreme Court.

SBG & K Patent and Law Offices deals with unfair competition issues as well as cartel investigations. Katalin Szamosi is noted for her experience.

Led by László Nagy, the competition team at Siegler Law Office/Weil, Gotshal & Manges works extensively with the firm’s corporate/M&A practice. It advised high-profile bank FHB Jelzálogbank Nyrt and the Hungarian-Danish media enterprise Infocenter.hu Media Rt.

The competition team at Szecskay Attorneys at Law has continued to advise high-profile clients including L’Oréal. It also advised CIB Bank in one of the largest cases for the Hungarian Competition Office.

bnt Szabó Tom Burmeister Ügyvédi Iroda continues to represent established clients such as FedEx. It advised the Hungarian government in an international investment dispute, and provided merger advice to major US food producter Bunge.

Erös Üqyvédi Iroda / Squire Sanders & Dempsey (US) LLP works on cartel and abuse of dominant position cases. Senior associate Artúr Tamási is a well-regarded member of the team.

Faludi Wolf Theiss’ competition team, led by experienced former Clifford Chance lawyer János Tóth, has been involved in some significant cases since its inception. It successfully advised major gas trader EMFESZ Kft on a high-value matter involving abuse of position charges.

Forgó, Damjanovic & Partners Law Firm saw the arrival of former Réczicza White & Case LLP associate Dániel Szentkuti to its competition team. It has recently assisted with several strategic investment deals, including advising Mechel. Zoltan Forgo leads the team of four fee-earners.

Gide Loyrette Nouel’s competition team is now led by senior associate Ákos Kovách following the departure of András Palásthy. The group has gained several new clients including Lafarge and ACM. Noted for its ‘good-quality work and fast response time’, the three-fee-earner team has been involved in several intricate cross-border disputes.

    Government Emergency Ordinance no. 58 (the “Ordinance”) for the amendment and completion of Law no. 571/2003 regarding the Fiscal Code (the “Fiscal Code”) and other fiscal-financial measures was published in the Official Gazette of Romania, Part I no. 431 of June 28, 2010.
