Allen & Overy's key highlights include advising Société Générale, as agent, and a syndicate of banks on an approximately €3.1bn credit facility provided to PPF Group for the acquisition of Telenor Group in Hungary, Bulgaria, Serbia and Montenegro. Counsel Károly Fóti and Zoltán Lengyel lead the team, and senior associate Norbert Hete is recognised for his capital markets experience.

Andrékó Kinstellar advised a consortium of banks, including Erste Group Bank and Erste Bank Hungary, on a €335m credit facility to Gránit Pólus for the refinancing of existing loans and for the provision of a capex credit line for the WestEnd City Center shopping mall in Budapest. Department head Csilla Andrékó and counsel Ákos Mátés-Lányi have ‘great experience in complex and structured deals’, and managing associate Levente Hegedüs is also recommended.

CMS is commended for its ‘personalised and dedicated approach’. Key highlights include advising MOL on a €750m revolving credit facility provided by a group of 15 banks. Team head Erika Papp is praised for her ‘great ideas’ and Anikó Kircsi is experienced in equity capital markets transactions. Senior consultant Árpád Lantos, of counsel Eszter Török, senior associate Dorottya Varga-Giesz, associate Sándor Kovács, and senior counsels Adrienne Kraudi and Csongor Tompa are also noted.

Dentons advised Budapest Airport on the $1.6bn material restructuring of all current debts of the Budapest Airport Group and advised UniCredit and MUFG as co-ordinators on a €750m revolving credit facility for MOL. Banking and finance head Gergely Horváth, counsel Gábor Király and associate Gabriella Pataki are key members of the department, as is US-qualified lawyer Edward Keller, who leads the capital markets team.

DLA Piper Hungary handles a range of complex financing transactions as well as restructuring mandates. It advised MVM Hungarian Electricity on the acquisition of 50% of shares in ENKSZ.  Péter Györfi-Tóth heads the finance, projects and restructuring team and Gábor Borbély heads the finance practice. Senior associates Miklós Horváth, Attila Sári and associate Barbara Császár are also recommended for banking and finance work. András Nemescsói and Gábor Molnár head the capital markets practice where counsel Gábor Hollós is also noted.

Kapolyi Law Firm has ‘very precise knowledge of financial investments, banking and energy law’.  It advised Wallis Asset Management on the public takeover of Altera and assisted Altera with the listing of newly issued shares on the Budapest Stock Exchange. Managing partner József Kapolyi is 'a stand-out partner’ and Viktor Krezinger is noted for his capital markets expertise.

Lakatos, Köves and Partners assisted UniCredit Bank with the provision of a €130m facility to China-CEE Investment Cooperation Fund for the acquisition of Invitel Group and the team provided Hungarian law advice to Mid Europa Partners concerning the IPO of Waberer’s International. Péter Köves, Szabolcs Mestyán, Richard Lock and John Fenemore head the team. Senior associate Andrea Spisák and associates Balázs Rokob and Kristóf Németh are also key members of the team, as is Gabriella Szabó, who recently joined the firm from an in-house role.

Siegler Bird & Bird Ügyvédi Iroda is active across a range of banking, finance and capital markets transactions. It advised OTP Bank on the acquisition of Vojvođanska banka by OTP banka Srbija for €125m. Department head Konrád Siegler handles banking, finance and capital markets transactions. Special counsel Tamás Simon and senior associate Gábor Zoltán Szabó are also key members of the team.

Cerha Hempel is advising Erste Group Bank on a loan agreement for a Hungarian-based real estate company belonging to the Feneberg Group. Edina Nagy is noted for a range of banking and finance matters, Andrea Presser is experienced in leasing and regulatory matters and Attila Marjai represents clients in banking and finance litigation. Senior attorney András Kauten is also recommended.

Gárdos Mosonyi Tomori Law Office’s ‘reliable, precise and quick’ team was instructed by Tesco on its establishment as a payment services intermediary of a major UK-based provider of international money transfer services. Erika Tomori, István Gárdos and Dániel Szabó head the team, which also includes Péter Gárdos, who is ‘very smart and so accurate it amazes’, and senior associate Éva Dobos who recently joined from Erste Bank.

Hegymegi-Barakonyi and Partner Baker & McKenzie Attorneys-at-Law ’s ‘client-oriented’ team advised Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing on the refinancing of its investment in MOM Park shopping centre in Budapest, and also assisted it with the financing relating to the sale of the West End Business Center office building in Budapest. Practice head József Vági is ‘able to translate complex legal language into language that is easy to understand’.

At Schoenherr Hetényi Ügyvédi Iroda, the group assisted Bain Capital Europe, as the owner of Wittur Group, with the Hungarian aspects of its €455m acquisition of the Sematic Group for Wittur. Gergely Szalóki heads the team and Zita Albert is noted for capital markets mandates.

Szecskay Attorneys at Law combines ‘deep market knowledge with flexibility’ and is acting for PPF Group on Hungarian law issues relating to the financing of the acquisition of Telenor group’s CEE subsidiaries. Katalin Szecskay heads the team and focuses on transactional work for lenders. Judit Budai heads the capital markets team. Senior associate Judit Szórádi is also a key figure.

Wolf Theiss Faludi Erős Ügyvédi Iroda  regularly handles regional and local financing transactions with expertise across commercial lending, acquisition financing, restructuring, the sale of NPLs and regulatory work. It advised various lenders on the Hungarian law aspects of the debt restructuring and associated hedging arrangements of Budapest Airport. Senior associate Melinda Pelikán heads the team, which includes associates Zsófia Polyák and Diána Boross-Varga. Managing partner Zoltán Faludi is also recommended.

Deloitte Legal Erdos and Partners Law Firm has ‘solid knowledge of banking law’. Department head Luca Bokor is ably supported by managing partner Gabor Erdös and both are praised for their ‘knowledge, skill and precision’. Senior associate Linda Al Sallami is also noted.

Forgó, Damjanovic & Partners Law Firm is regularly instructed by lender and borrower clients on cross-border transactions. It acted as Hungarian legal advisers to Bank of Ireland/NAMA (National Asset Management Agency) on a €110m loan transaction for multinational borrowers based in Ireland. Of counsel Ferenc Lénárt heads the team, which also includes Gábor Damjanovic.

HBK Partners Attorneys at Law advises on structured finance, corporate finance, project finance and syndicated lending mandates.  It advised MKB Bank on the issuance of tier 2 subordinated bonds, under the Basel III regime. Dóra Halápi and Dusán Lásztity lead the team. Márton Kovács is experienced in advising on NPL portfolios.

HP Legal | Hajdu & Partners advised K&H Bank as lender on a €35m structured corporate finance credit facility to BSZL. Practice head László Hajdu is ‘focused on providing swift and efficient solutions to issues’. Hanna Bátki and senior associate Réka Versics are also key members of the team.

The ‘flexible’ team at Jalsovszky advised Erste Bank on several real estate finance matters. Deputy managing partner Gábor Pázsitka heads the team; he finds ‘swift solutions to problems’ and has ‘good negotiation skills’.

Nagy és Trócsányi Ügyvédi Iroda handles a range of banking, finance, regulatory, M&A issues and disputes for OTP Bank and provides regulatory advice to the Hungarian subsidiary of Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich. György Kiszely heads the team and is ably supported by Zoltán Varga.

The team at Noerr advised Bayerische Landesbank on a €135m acquisition facility provided to BC Bavarian Candles. Practice head Edina Schweizer co-heads the firm’s CEE banking and finance practice group. Ákos Bajorfi handles regulatory matters and is also experienced in capital markets work.

At Oppenheim Ugyvedi Iroda, acquisition finance, real estate and project finance mandates are key areas of expertise, as are corporate restructurings and disputes. Péter Horvai-Hillenbrand heads the banking, finance and capital markets practice.

Partos & Noblet in co-operation with Hogan Lovells International LLP is praised for its ‘response times and for its client-focused approach’ and advised Vajda-Papír on an €80m loan from a Hungarian banking syndicate. Department head Sándor Békési and László Partos, who is noted for capital markets transactions, are key names.

Szabo Kelemen & Partners Attorneys regularly handles project finance mandates. Péter Vincze and associate Zoltán Módos are key members of the team, as are attorneys Erik Landgraf, who recently joined from FHB Mortgage Bank, and Tamás Kárpáthegyi.
