Local practices remain at the top of Ghana’s legal market. Apart from South African IP firm Spoor & Fisher and Nigeria’s AELEX, international law firms do not have established presences on the ground. However, several international legal practices have working associations with domestic firms. For example, Oxford & Beaumont Solicitors has strong relationships with Norton Rose LLP, Allen & Overy LLP, Baker & McKenzie LLP, Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP and Linklaters LLP.

In 2011, Ghana’s government passed the Oil Revenue Management Bill, which will provide Ghana with the opportunity to secure loans from financial institutions against future oil revenues. As such, there has been an increase in demand for lawyers with energy expertise to match the investments being made in this sector. Ghana’s litigation market is also developing, and consequently, a new Dispute resolution section has been added to the chapter.
