Borenius is particularly experienced in matters pertaining to transport-related contracts and disputes. Practice head and ‘top expert’ Ulla von Weissenberg is leading the representation of a large group of ship owners in claims against the Finnish state for alleged discriminatory collection of fairway dues. Clients also include Helsinki City Transport, Finferries and OP Insurance.

Castrén & Snellman is well known for its expertise in the maritime, shipping and logistics sectors. The team advised Norsepower on the delivery of its wind rotor propulsion system to both Maersk Tanker and Viking Line. Niklas Langenskiöld is head of the practice, which represents Finnlines and Prima Shipping Group. Counsel Rickard Langenskiöld is highly regarded.

HPP Attorneys is ‘one of the leading firms in Finland’ in maritime and transport law. The practice, headed by the ‘knowledgeable’ Nora Gahmberg-Hisinger, advised the Finnish Transport Agency on the procurement of a €128m icebreaker, and the subsequent sale to Arctia Icebreaking, a subsidiary of the state-owned Arctia. ‘Ardent litigator’Matti Komonen is a key contact.

DLA Piper represents Helsinki City Transport Authority in a €450m dispute against Siemens Osakeyhtiö and Siemens (France) over the termination of agreements for a metro automation project in Helsinki. The team, led by Janne Tuulos, is also experienced in shipping finance matters. Nordea Bank and Finnvera are other clients.

Dittmar & Indrenius advised the Irish airline CityJet on its acquisition of Blue1 from SAS, including complex air transport regulatory matters, service arrangements and extensive employee reorganisations. Juha-Pekka Mutanen and Jan Ollila are joint heads of the practice. Other clients include Finnair, VR Group and Turkish Airlines.
