Browne Jacobson LLP’s Simon Tait heads the firm’s national health practice, and assists NHS Trusts with contentious regulatory matters, inquests and clinical governance. For example, he represented Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in a six-day inquest into the death of a patient caused by hypoxic brain damage following spinal surgery. Tait also acted for an NHS Trust during an inquest arising from the trial use of transoral robotic surgery and subsequent death of a patient from an oral bleed. On the corporate and commercial side, Oliver Pritchard advises public, private and third sector entities in the health and social care sectors on mergers, acquisitions and restructurings. PCT Healthcare instructed Pritchard on its £65m acquisition of WR Evans, which included a group restructuring and demerger. Pritchard also advised NHS England on updating its national statutory guidance to Clinical Commissioning Groups on conflict of interest management. Ben Troke, who specialises in mental capacity matters and healthcare law, assisted NHS England with preparing guidelines on its discharge policy, countering so-called "bed blocking".
