Mills & Reeve LLP is ‘very responsive to clients’ needs’. Its national health and care team is led from Cambridge by project finance specialist Bridget Archibald and includes health and technology counsel Sean Earnshaw in Norwich, who provides a virtual in-house service to hospital trusts going through major commercial and outsourcing projects. He acted alongside head of technology Kevin Calder for the Department of Health on its £5bn Future Operating Model project that will replace NHS Supply Chain and reorganise how NHS Trusts purchase clinical and non-clinical equipment. Corporate partner Natalie Wade advised a private equity firm on its investment into the development of a corporate dentistry platform. Regulatory specialist Duncan Astill assisted a private sector provider of mental healthcare with a challenge to a CQC inspection, which ultimately upgraded its assessment of the facilities. Health technology expert Peter Wainman worked with Calder to advise Great Ormond Street Hospital on the procurement of electronic patient record systems. Principal associate and barrister Philip Grey is recommended for his expert insight into healthcare regulation.

Birketts LLP has a strong reputation in health and social care, as illustrated by its ongoing role on the panels of the NHS Shared Business Services and the NHS Commercial Alliance frameworks. The firm’s employment team has a particularly strong reputation in the sector and advises many NHS employers on disciplinary matters and dismissals. Richard Eaton, who has experience as a non-executive director of Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust, leads the health practice and handles contentious public law issues. The firm’s real estate team regularly advises NHS Property Services on complex and high-value transactions; Chris Schwer advised Health and Hospice Charity on leasehold properties for charity shops, and Chris Barker acted for Two Rivers Medical Partnership on lease agreements. A specialist care homes team acts for many operators on strategic and operational matters. The firm also advises numerous GP practices across East Anglia.
