He advised Transport for Greater Manchester on aspects of the £1.5bn Metrolink Expansion project, including undertaking a peer review of contractual documentation relating to the procurement of the new operator/maintainer of the Manchester Metrolink tram system. Bridget Archibald, who leads the firm’s national health and care team, acted for Community Health Partnerships in relation to a land retained agreement to facilitate the construction of an integrated care centre in Hull. Highlights for student accommodation expert Andrew Wood and principal associate David Stead included advising Bournemouth University on a leasehold disposal for premises comprising 500 student bedrooms.

Founded only three years ago as a specialist boutique firm for higher education matters, JG Poole & Co. LLP has quickly built up a strong project finance and PFI practice, with special emphasis on student accommodation development. Clients note the firm’s ‘friendly and flexible delivery of high-level professional advice, the prompt responses and the ability for lawyers to think outside the box to solve complex issues’. Jason Poole is a leading light in the student accommodation sector and consultant Helen Bolton is a recognised specialist in structured finance. The firm is assisting Chiltern Student Village with a new student housing PPP at Buckinghamshire University. It is also working on a series of bids for student accommodation partnering projects on behalf of the investment arm of a leading construction company. Other highlights included an £80m project for 1,367 residential units at the University of Salford and a £15m development project for the University of Lincoln. The firm is expanding its profile beyond the education sector; recent work includes handling a finance project to develop a renewable energy plant in Iceland and the restructuring of a large social housing project in the UK.
