Boyanov & Co’s ‘outstanding’ team stands out for its ‘excellent integrated services’. Damian Simeonov and Raina Dimitrova’s highlights included handling Bulgarian Telecommunications Company’s (BTC) €330m acquisition of Vivacom, and advising on a number of high-value multi-jurisdictional deals and post-closing matters. Yordan Naydenov heads the team and ‘very professionalAlexander Chatalbashev is another key practitioner.

CMS benefits from its global network and draws on the ‘deep knowledge’ of the firm’s European offices to handle multi-jurisdictional transactions. The team advised Advent International on the sale of its €120m interest in Devin to Spadel and assisted B2 Holding with its acquisition of a large Bulgarian debt collection company. Kambourov & Partners’ ‘consistently excellent’ team, led by Vladimir Rangeloff, advises on M&A and post-M&A matters, and the corporate and commercial aspects of business operations. The group, as local counsel, advised Aon, together with DLA Piper, on its management buyout, which included a deferred purchase payment and combined escrow mechanism. ‘Extremely capable’ Veronika Hadjieva is noted for her work on corporate matters.

One of the ‘best full-service firms in Bulgaria’, Wolf Theiss is valued by international corporates for its ‘brilliant advice on local legal and cultural norms’. ‘Excellent’ practice head Richard Clegg served as regional CEE counsel for Amundi on its €3.5bn global acquisition of Pioneer Investments from UniCredit. Zoya Todorova heads the team at Dimitrov, Petrov & Co, which advises local and foreign corporates on all aspects of their operations and transactions in Bulgaria. Boyana Milcheva has ‘an excellent command of law and an impeccable professional approach’. Metodi Baykushev leads on commercial disputes.

Dinova Rusev & Partners is valued for its ‘good quality of service and high ethical standards’. The firm is advising an international private equity fund on the €250m sale of a Sofia mall. Atanassov & Ivanov Law Firm’s ‘pragmatic’ team is retained by Toyota, Michelin and Salini Impregilo as advisers on local corporate and commercial matters. Gugushev & Partners Law Office has ‘a professional and sophisticated approach’ and predominantly handles corporate matters in the IT and real estate sectors. Aldin Shenkov is a key name for transactions involving the Turkish market. Practice head Pavel Hristov and Biliana Shagova, who was recently promoted to the partnership, are other key names.

The team at Kinstellar has a ‘commercial approach’ and a ‘high level of professionalism’; the group handles the range of cross-border commercial, corporate and M&A matters. Highlights included advising KBC Bank NV on the €610m acquisition of the United Bulgarian Bank and leasing company Bulgaria, Interlease, from the National Bank of Greece. The Sofia-based team often handles CEE matters in tandem with the firm’s other offices in the region. Diana Dimova heads the practice. Clients include Teva Pharmaceutical Industrials and Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC.

Murgova & Partners Attorneys at Law is a full-service firm, predominantly advising corporates in the IT and logistics sectors on due diligence, M&A and matters concerning business operations in Bulgaria. Practice head Petya Murgova is noted for her ‘vast experience and knowledge of local and EU legislation’. Aleksandar Moskov, who is a key name for due diligence exercises, is ‘highly effective’.

Penkov, Markov & PartnersVladimir Penkov and Ivan Markov are experienced commercial lawyers with historic experience in major M&A deals, due diligence projects and labour law matters.

At Tocheva & Mandazhieva Law Office, the ‘responsive, flexible and professional’ team counts a number of major technology manufacturers and service providers as clients. The group handles day-to-day corporate and commercial work, as well as all aspects of M&A. Zhulieta Mandazhieva and Ivana Bliznakova jointly head the department.

Velchev & Co. Law Office’s team has ‘a proven successful track record in structuring, coordinating, and executing complex transactions and projects’. CHSH Gerginov Aehrenthal Zivny advised a global IT company on all aspects of various mergers of businesses in Bulgaria, including IP matters and post-merger work. Boyko Gerginov is the main practitioner.

At Delchev & Partners, Emil Delchev leads a team that advises domestic and other EU-based corporates on their local operations and transactions. Clients include Reward Gateway and KWS Bulgaria.

Dyulgerova & Penkova Law Firm’s ‘reliable’ team acts for clients including the Bulgarian subsidiary of Adidas and Garanti Koza, assisting with various corporate and commercial matters.
