Philip Graham heads the BVI investment funds team and is chairman of both the executive council of the BVI Investment Funds Association and the BVI's Hedge Fund Association division. The counsels to note are Rob McIntyre, who joined from LennoxPaton, Nadia Menezes, previously at Appleby, and Ayana Hull. At senior associate level, Natalie Bell and Mirza Manraj are experienced advisers. Former funds partner Oliver Bell left for Walkers' Cayman Islands' office.

Maples Group's BVI funds group advises some of the largest institutions using the BVI as a fund domicile, and assists with all developments in law and regulation pertaining to investment funds. In addition to fund formation, registration, setting up and maintenance, the team advises on licensing options available for fund managers, advisers, administrators and other investment business entities seeking licensing in the BVI. Through the firm's affiliate MaplesFS, it also provides a full range of fiduciary, accounting and administration services for investment funds and institutional investors in key financial centres. Richard May has a significant investment funds practice, primarily involving some of the world’s largest US and UK managers with assets in excess of $1bn; associate Stuart Connolly is recommended for advising managers and institutional investors on all aspects of investment funds, including regulatory areas such as Common Reporting Standards, The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act and similar regimes.

Conyers Dill & Pearman's BVI office has a large investment funds practice that provides specialist advice to clients on their day-to-day operations, from initial fund formation and structuring to the restructuring and winding up of funds. The team provided BVI legal advice to ACE & Company on the establishment of its private equity vehicles; it also provided BVI legal advice to Adler Kawa, a joint venture between Adler Group, Kawa Capital Partners and Ganot Capital that specialises in real estate investment, on the formation and final closing of its Fund III as well as on ongoing matters. The key contacts are Robert Briant, who heads the BVI corporate department, Anton Goldstein and counsel Audrey Robertson.

Walkers BVI's offshore fund practice advises hedge funds, private equity funds and distressed funds in relation to all aspects of their businesses; the team's experience includes fund formation and capitalisation, financing, buyouts, downstream M&A, direct investment and joint venture transactions. Patrick Ormond, whose practice includes advising funds and investors on international finance and corporate transactions, joined as partner from Carey Olsen; senior associate Jude Hodge, who is experienced in advising on BVI investment fund vehicles, was hired from Mourant Ozannes.

O'Neal Webster's funds team advises asset managers, promoters, public, private and professional funds and other industry participants on the structuring and restructuring of BVI funds and on regulatory and compliance issues affecting funds. Former managing partner Kerry Anderson heads the firm’s funds, investment and regulatory practice; he is experienced in the initial structuring of investment vehicles and amendments to investment vehicles, and his clients include US- and EU-based fund managers, closed-ended funds, open-ended funds, public funds and segregated portfolio company funds.
