Harney Westwood & Riegels advice is 'always sound and practical'. The practice advised Bank of Scotland/Lloyds TSB in relation to the restructuring of a $1.2bn term loan facility and related security package; and acted as BVI counsel to Delancey, the specialist real estate investment and advisory company, and its BVI entities, in its joint venture with Qatari Diar to acquire the London Olympic Village for £557m. Global banking and finance head Colin Riegels is a 'technically strong and able negotiator'. Ross Munro leads the BVI investment funds and regulatory team, and is 'brilliant on corporate restructuring matters'. Russell Willings is 'user friendly'; and Philip Graham, Tanya Cassie-Parker and Jacqueline Daley-Aspinall are also rated. Leonard Birmingham, the firm's global corporate and commercial head, relocated to the BVI office in August 2012 on a full-time basis. Global managing partner Richard Peters announced his retirement from the firm; Sheila Georgeis the new BVI office managing partner.

Recent highlights for Ogier include advising TPG Capital in relation to the acquisition of a substantial stake in Lenta, one of Russia's leading hyper-market chains; and representing CEMEX in relation to the exchange and restructuring of certain of its listed securities. BVI managing partner Ray Wearmouth and Simon Schilder are recommended. Senior associates Lee Osborne and Marie-Claire Fudge are also key practitioners. Rachael McDonald departed the firm for Mourant Ozannes' new BVI office.

Conyers Dill & Pearman's 'service levels are high'. The team advised Sigdo Koppers in relation to its $790m acquisition of Belgian mining company Magotteaux; and assisted Burger King Worldwide Holdings in connection with its business combination with Justice Holdings. The office also saw a significant increase in BVI aircraft finance work. Group head Robert Briant is widely praised; and Alison Chilcott Spyer, Anton Goldstein, Cora Miller, Audrey Robertson, and Kristian Wilson are well-regarded advisers. Patrick Ormond joined from Macfarlanes LLP as a corporate associate.

'Responsive and accountable firm' Maples and Calder typically acts on big-ticket transactions in the BVI. In June 2012, the practice represented Justice Holdings in relation to its business combination with the world's second largest fast food hamburger restaurant chain, Burger King Worldwide Holdings. Kieran Walsh is the global BVI practice head. Richard May gives 'thorough, thoughtful and practical advice in a timely and cost-efficient manner'. Tim Clipstone arrived in June 2012 from Walkers. Clinton Hempel and Greg Boyd left to found Hempel and Boyd.

Walkers recently represented the underwriters, BofA Merrill Lynch, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Itau BBA and Citi, in the $3bn New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) IPO and subsequent $900m secondary offering of shares of Arcos Dorados Holdings; and acted for NASDAQ-listed FriendFinder Networks in its acquisition of BDM Global Ventures by means of a BVI law statutory merger. John Gosling and Marianne Rajic are recommended practitioners. Tim Clipstone exited for Maples and Calder.

Appleby was joined by Nadia Menezes in 2011 as senior associate from Ogier and Valerie Georges-Thomas joined Bedell Cristin's new BVI office in 2012. Sally Cox also departed. The team advised Credit Suisse on a $120m refinancing transaction involving a telecommunications infrastructure project for a Central American telecommunications infrastructure sharing company, Continental Towers Holding Corporation. BVI corporate and commercial head Michael Burns is rated.

O'Neal Webster - Barristers & Solicitors's managing partner Kerry Anderson and corporate and commercial head Vanessa King have worked in the BVI for almost a decade, and have significant experience advising major clients on a range of BVI corporate and commercial matters. The team advised Mercantil Colpatria on its sale to The Bank of Nova Scotia of a 51% stake in Banco Colpatria, one of Colombia's leading banks. Christopher Simpson focuses primarily on banking and finance, and corporate and commercial law.

Forbes Hare's corporate and commercial head Jose Santos is 'extremely responsive and knowledgeable'. The team advised as offshore counsel in the $115m IPO of CIS Acquisition, an innovated public acquisition company. Andrew Coddington is a key adviser.
