The 'practical, fast and knowledgeable' international trade team at Demarest Advogados maintains a large market share in trade remedy investigations - those initiated abroad as well as those originating in Brazil. The firm has likewise established a strong customs practice, under the leadership of Oswaldo Leite de Moraes. Also notable is the firm's track record in representing Brazil in WTO cases. In WTO cases DS472 and DS497 -initiated by the EU and Japan and challenging Brazilian industrial policies- a team led by José Setti Diaz acted for the National Industry Confederation (CNI) to defend the interests of the exporting sector. Other key members of the team include senior associate Fernando Benjamin Bueno and litigation specialist Camila Biral, who is well versed in anti-dumping investigations. With a long history in the Brazilian market, Pinheiro Neto Advogados has established a leading international trade practice. It regularly has a hand in trade remedy investigations in Brazil, and has vast experience in investigations abroad. Customs and WTO cases are also a regular feature of the team's workload. A team led by Mauro Berenholc and Renê Guilherme Medrado advised Brazilian automotive industry association ANFAVEA in the appellate review stage of a complaint brought by the EU and Japan concerning the INNOVAR-AUTO incentive programme. Elsewhere, Medrado advised Tetra Pak in an administrative proceeding initiated by Colombia to investigate imports of certain packaging material originating from Brazil. Associates making a mark in the team include senior associate Luiz Fernando Dalle Luche Machado.

'One of the first legal firms to invest in international trade in Brazil' Veirano Advogados has 'accrued a broad experience in trade matters and is recognised as a leading firm'. The team had another busy year in 2018, with highlights including its assistance to the Brazilian electrical and electronics industry association ABINEE in WTO cases DS472 and DS497, and its representation of a Brazilian producer and exporter BRF in a dumping investigation into exports of broiler products into China. 'One of the greatest minds in international trade law in Brazil', Ana Teresa Caetano heads the department and is noted for her 'ability to analyse problems from different perspectives'. The team includes a number of experienced associates, including Fernanda Kotzias.

The highly experienced international trade team at Azevedo Sette Advogados is equipped to handle domestic and international investigations and WTO cases. In 2018, it represented a Brazilian manufacturer to defend its interests against the EU's imposition of antidumping duties on silicon exports. Luiz Eduardo Salles leads the department, which benefits from a pool of talented associates, including senior associates Lucas Bianchini and Ingrid Bandeira Santos.

Leading competition and international trade boutique Grinberg e Cordovil Advogados is a popular choice for major international and domestic companies. Its broad expertise spans anti-dumping, subsidies and safeguard investigations and a range of other trade-related procedures. Among a long list of recent highlights was the team's representation of ArcelorMittal Brasil in a public interest investigation and administrative appeal concerning antidumping levies imposed against imports of graphite electrodes from China; department heads Leonor Cordovil and Ricardo Cassanova Motta led the advice. Bernardo Leite is a key senior associate in the team.

'With deep knowledge and experience', São Paulo-based boutique MPA Trade Law 'can come up with important and decisive insights'. It had another active year in 2018, securing several successful results for its clients. In the antidumping investigation in China against Brazil's exports of poultry, the team acted for Brazilian Association of Animal Protein ABPA. Elsewhere, it acted for a healthcare company, successfully achieving a reduction of certain import tariffs. Rodrigo Pupo is highly recommended. He leads the team alongside Claudia Marques, who is well versed in the full array of international trade and customs matters, acting for both importers and exporters.

The busy and buoyant international trade practice at Mundie e Advogados is led by experienced partners Carol Monteiro de Carvalho and Andrea Weiss Balassiano. In recent work, the pair advised Viasat on the customs structure to import equipment for a project to provide high-speed communications services across the country. On the investigations side, the team advised Nitriflex on the antidumping investigation on imports of nitrile rubber from France and South Korea.

Fialho Salles Advogados provides trade law advice to industry associations, importers and exporters. It particularly stands out for its knowledge of WTO matters and dispute settlement. The multidisciplinary group is led by IP and international trade expert Lucas Spadano, and includes key associates Bruno Augustin and Lara Sturion.

Economic law firm Magalhães e Dias - Advocacia has an impressive international trade practice. Several partners are active in in international trade matters, including litigation and consultancy. In a significant public interest case in 2018, the team successfully represented Whirlpool in a request for the maintenance of a suspension of antidumping duties on imports of hot rolled steel from Russia and China. Gabriel Nogueira Dias' broad practice spans international trade, competition, litigation and compliance. He often works alongside Francisco Niclós Negrão, who draws on over 15 years' experience in the field of international trade.

Clients appreciate Mattos Engelberg Advogados' ability to 'keep the client informed' and to 'quickly understand a problem'. Practice head Carla Junqueira splits her time between São Paulo and Buenos Aires and is highly recommended. Associate Ana Luiza Sanches receives praise for her ability to 'translate the case to the client in a non-technical way'. On the customs side, practice head Vera Kanas¬†worked alongside colleagues in the corporate team to advise¬†Whirlpool on customs issues connected to a corporate restructuring. The tax and customs team at Rolim, Viotti & Leite Campos Advogados includes specialists in customs, social security, corporate and public law. In recent work, a team led by aviation partner Ricardo Alvarenga advised a client on importation and customs clearance of certain aircraft.   • Turkey: Special Purpose Acquisition Companies

    Special Purpose Acquisition Companies (" SPAC "), which are incorporated to achieve the purpose of investing and merging with a non-public company, were first introduced in the United States in 1990s and recently increased its popularity globally. Unlike other countries, SPACs entered into Turkish legal system relatively late with the Communiqué on Common Principles Regarding Significant Transactions and Appraisal Right (Communiqué No. II-23.1) of the Capital Markets Board (" CMB "), published in the Official Gazette dated 24.12.2013 numbered 28861(" Appraisal Right Communiqué "). Currently, there is no SPAC listed under Borsa Istanbul (" BIST ") in Turkey. SPACs are very similar to venture capital structure and can be considered as a strong alternative for investors and shareholders in Turkey as well.
