The energy sector remains of primary importance in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with ongoing projects to develop thermal power plants, hydropower plants and wind farms. Legal advice is therefore sought out in various practice areas including construction, corporate and banking and finance. Another noticeable trend is the increased number of Chinese companies entering the market, not only to take over the development of projects but also to finance them. The infrastructure sector has also gained momentum in the last year with several ongoing projects for the development of motorways. IP, M&A and real estate transactional mandates on the other hand, remain quiet. On the legislative side, 2018 was a quiet year as the general election took place and few major legislative changes were implemented.

Bosnia and Herzergovina is characterised by a segmented legal system between the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska, two separate entities subject to different legal regimes, and a special autonomous district, the Brčko District. The legal market includes a number of well-established domestic firms, such as Dimitrijevic & Partners, Maric & Co Law Firm, Law Office Miljkovic & Partners and Law firm SAJIC, as well as international legal practices such as CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz D.O.O. in cooperation with local lawyers and Wolf Theiss - in cooperation with local lawyers. A peculiar feature of the legal market in Bosnia and Herzegovina is that firms often work in cooperation with offices in Serbia, such as Moravcevic Vojnovic and Partners in cooperation with Schoenherr and Karanovic & Partners in cooperation with local lawyers.
