CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz D.O.O. in cooperation with local lawyers was instructed by a number of international companies in 2016, including assisting Interstate Hotels & Resorts with its local corporate structure, employment and competition law issues pertaining to three hotels in Sarajevo. Other highlights include assisting technology investment group Naspers with the acquisition of a Bosnian internet company and advising Siemens on local corporate matters. Nedžida Salihović-Whalen is ‘persuasive, in court as well as in negotiations’.

The ‘very experienced’ lawyers at BDK Advokati/Attorneys at Law have ‘excellent levels of industry knowledge’ and are routinely involved in prominent transactions in the region. Highlights variously included acting on the privatisation of Telekom Srbija in Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina; advising the Bulgartabac plant in Banja Luka on domestic tobacco regulations; and assisting British American Tobacco with its post-acquisition absorption of Croatian tobacco producer TDR. Stevan Dimitrijević founded Dimitrijevic & Partners in early 2016, following his departure from Local lawyers in cooperation with Karanovic & Nikolic. Davorin Marinković joined in March, along with senior associates Nina Vještica and Tanja Savičić. Clients retained during the move include a Big Four accountancy firm and Heidelberg Cement. The team recently advised Telekom Srpske on post-closing issues regarding the acquisition of Sarajevo-based telecoms operator Logosoft.

Nihad Sijerčić, the head of practice at Local lawyers in cooperation with Karanovic & Nikolic is ‘one of the best civil lawyers in the country’. Six associates staff offices in Sarajevo and Banja Luka, acting for clients such as Shanghai Electric, Carmeuse, Wella, VTB Bank and HETA Group. The team advised a leading cable television and internet provider on its acquisition of several domestic telecoms operators. Sijerčić assisted VTB Bank with a revolving credit facility agreement between the client and a Bosnia-based textiles company.

Maric & Co Law Firm is led by the well-respected Branko Marić, who often assists foreign investors with a wide range of corporate matters. The team assisted Heineken with establishing its presence in Sarajevo.

Law Office Miljkovic & Partners’ lawyers are ‘competent, responsive, and provide direct, concrete and transparent advice’. The team acted for UniCredit branches in Italy and Austria along with Zagrebačka Bank with respect to shareholder restructuring issues in its local subsidiary, Unicredit Bank d.d. Mostar. Sead Miljković is ‘knowledgeable and skilled in developing the right strategies for clients’.

Moravcevic Vojnovic and Partners in cooperation with Schoenherr demonstrated its ability to handle big-ticket deals when it assisted Apollo Global Management with its bid for a 58% equity stake in Telekom Srbija, worth over €1bn. Office head Matija Vojnović led the matter and also advised global automotive equipment company Faurecia on its acquisition of manufacturing assets from Bosnia-based Car Trim. Competition specialist Srđana Petonijević and Luka Lopičić are other key partners.

Law Firm Sajic is representing Lithuanian bank Ūkio bankas in various litigation, bankruptcy, enforcement and administrative proceedings against Birac Group, a Bosnian alumina plant. The firm also handles corporate matters for Toshiba, metal fabricator R-S Silicon and the Bosnian branch of Slovenian metals manufacturer Kolektor. Senior partner Aleksandar Sajic is leading the matter with support from group head Nataša Krejić, and Sanja Djukic is another key contact.

Recent highlights for Wolf Theiss – in cooperation with local lawyers include advising a large steel producer with its financial and corporate restructuring process, assisting a Slovenian bank with the restructuring of a local food and beverage group, and acting for an Austrian bank as well as a private equity firm on a takeover bid for the acquisition of shares in a local branch of a European bank. Practice head Naida Čustović made partner in May 2016.
