Practice¬†head √Ālvaro Villegas¬†advised a prominent consumer goods company on the tax aspects of its merger with an agricultural commodities entity, as well as successfully defending a manufacturing company against an enforced tax collection filed to its Bolivian subsidiary. Other clients include¬†Petrobras Bolivia, Sofia Ltda and Empresa Minera Paititi. Jos√© Luis Tufi√Īo¬†is a key name; senior associate Sandra Vasquez¬†is also very active in the tax sector. Araujo & Forgues¬†is highly regarded for its expertise across a wide spectrum of contentious and non-contentious tax matters, and is noted for supporting other departments within the firm, with a key focus on corporate work. The practice is jointly led by Jaime Ara√ļjo, who is based in Santa Cruz, and La Paz-based Jannine Forgues.

FERRERE¬†counts tax litigation, tax advice on multi-jurisdictional transactions and international mandates as the core pillars of its practice; it is also noted for its strength in accounting work.¬†Practice head Pablo Ordo√Īez¬†is 'very proactive and always available'; he is representing oilfield services company Schlumberger in litigation against Bolivia's tax authority (Servicio de Impuestos Nacionales or SIN), which is being heard before the Supreme Court of Justice. Other clients include Cargill, Louis Dreyfus Company and Bebidas Bolivianas. Senior associate Alexandra Ort√≠z¬†and associate Miguel √Āngel Gumucio¬†are highly active in this sector.

Noted for assisting the firm's energy and corporate departments with the tax-related aspects of sizeable mandates, Guevara & Gutiérrez S.C’s 'efficient' team is especially strong in tax litigation. Practice head Mauricio Dalman is well known for his expertise in litigation and tax planning; he recently represented Planta Recicladora Commetal in a successful tax annulment process before the SIN. Other clients include Explora, Petrobras Bolivia, Ferroviaria Oriental and Repsol E&P Bolivia. Associate Mauricio Viscarra is also recommended.

Noted for its 'professionalism', Indacochea & Asociados¬†has particular experience in¬†assisting clients with corporate matters and advising on transfer pricing mandates; on the contentious side, the team is strong in defending clients against tax rulings. Mariana Pereira¬†and senior associate Candys Dorado¬†co-lead the group, which counts Cenatel Bolivia, Farmacorp, Mercator Bolivia and Louis Dreyfus Company Bolivia as clients. Junior associate¬†Rina Monta√Īo¬†has left the firm.

Operating since October 2018, Bufete Aguirre, Quintanilla, Soria & Nishizawa Sociedad Civil ‚Äď (BAQSN)'s tax department handles both advisory and contentious mandates, including tax planning, compliance and challenges to SIN tax-assessment rulings. Mauricio Torrico Galindo, who co-leads the team with¬†Milenka Saavedra Mu√Īoz,¬†recently advised¬†LATAM Airlines Group on transfer pricing matters regarding fund transfers between Bolivia and Spain. In the Santa Cruz office,¬†Gonzalo Prudencio Goz√°lvez¬†is noted for his tax expertise.

Moreno Baldivieso Estudio De Abogados¬†counts litigation as a core pillar of its tax practice, which is well known for assisting the firm's other departments with complex mandates, particularly on the corporate side. The team was strengthened in September 2018 with the incorporation of tax-dedicated counsel¬†Rodrigo Burgos, a former manager at KPMG; he co-leads the practice with¬†Delfor Zapata. The pair represented mining company¬†Compa√Īia Minera Tiwanacu in litigation regarding the payment of capital gains tax after selling a 78% stake, worth $19m, in an affiliated company to another entity based in Canada. Regional development bank CAF instructed the team on a number of matters, including the extension of its tax-exempt status. Other clients include Pan American Silver, ADM and Pan American Energy.

Banking and finance boutique Criales & Urcullo¬†has been particularly active in the real estate sector; the 'very pragmatic' team is also strong in international tax work. Luis Valda¬†leads the 'proactive and creative' group, which fields¬†accountants as well as lawyers; he recently assisted¬†Ciudad Nueva Santa Cruz with the tax planning for prominent real estate project 'La Nueva Santa Cruz'. Auditor Rub√©n Acu√Īa¬†and¬†financial adviser Gabriel Galarza¬†are also key names. Other clients include¬†CABOLQUI, D&M Group and the Pan American Group.
