Allen & Overy LLP fields ‘an excellent, always reachable private equity team’ that has ‘good connections with the other offices’. The practice has extensive experience in advising private equity investors, arranging banks, management teams and investees. Recent highlights include advising QSR Belgium, a Belgian entity incorporated into Kharis Capital, on the gradual acquisition of the Quick fast food restaurant chain from Groupe Bertrand. Other clients include Waterland and Indufin Capital Partners. Pierre-Olivier Mahieu heads the department, in which Dirk Meeus, Wouter Van de Voorde and ‘good negotiator’ Hans Kets are also recommended.

Loyens & Loeff’s group has ‘good business acumen’ and is ‘fun to work with’. It has extensive experience of private equity and venture capital transactions, where it acts for a wide range of well-known US, UK, Benelux and French players, including Lion Capital, Sunrock and H.I.G. Capital. In one recent highlight, the team assisted Antin Infrastructure Partners during the purchase of a majority stake in Amedes Holding, a provider of medical diagnostic services in Germany and Belgium, from General Atlantic. Key figures include Grégoire Jakhian and Stefaan Deckmyn, as well as ‘talented’ senior associate Robrecht Coppens.

Stibbe’s lawyers show ‘a high level of professionalism’, ‘perfectly understand what clients need’ and are ‘well embedded in the Belgian private equity market’. Recent work includes assisting Gimv with its acquisition of a 32% stake in logistics provider Contraload. The team also handled various matters for KKR and attracted new clients such as GF Capital and Equistone Partners. Stefan Odeurs is the key contact along with the ‘open-minded and trustworthyDries Hommez, who is appreciated for his negotiation skills.

Altius acts for international and domestic private equity and venture capital funds, senior debt and mezzanine providers, as well as equity fund investors. The practice recently advised Indufin Capital Partners on several investments, including the acquisition of a controlling stake in Veritas Group. Apax and Blackstone are key clients as well. Carine Van Regenmortel, Jérôme Vermeylen and Tom Vantroyen are the names to note.

Showing ‘in-depth knowledge of M&A transactions’, the team of ‘good dealmakers’ at boutique Argo Law provides ‘pragmatic advice’ to private equity clients, which include Gimv, Vendis and Down2Earth Capital. Work includes transactions – such as advising Waterland on its investment in HistoGeneX – as well as regulatory advice and fund formation. Managing partner Nico Goossens, Kris Verdoodt and Bert Van Ingelghem are the key contacts.

Baker & McKenzie CVBA/SCRL has built a substantial private equity group within its corporate and M&A department over the past decade. Recent work includes acting for KeBeK on the sale of Quercus Scientific. The team also advises Gimv and Vendis Capital. Corporate practice head Koen Vanhaerents is a key figure along with Dominique Maes, Roel Meers and Luc Meeus.

Dechert LLP handles a wide range of private equity transactions. It has particular experience in regulated industries such as healthcare and food, as well as network industries, including electricity and natural gas. Corporate practice head Eric Deltour is the name to note. René Gonne left to co-found a new law firm.

Linklaters counts well-known private equity houses, investment firms and funds among its key clients, which include Apax Partners, CVC Capital Partners and Waterland. Charles-Antoine Leunen and practice head Arnaud Coibion are recommended.

Clients are ‘impressed with the quality of deliverables’ of White & Case LLP’s private equity team, which recently advised longstanding client Cobepa and Kanelium Invest on transferring portfolio company SGG Group to Astorg Partners. Practice head Thierry Bosly is ‘very committed’ and ‘solution-oriented’. Local partner Hadrien Servais joined from the London office of Shearman & Sterling LLP.
