Bahrain continued to feel the effects of the drop in global oil prices, most notably in the projects sphere, which has seen a number halted or restructured. Despite this, the Bahrain government is continuing to invest in PPP energy and infrastructure projects. The country also benefits from a robust tourism industry and a financial services sector that is attracting international banks such as BNP Paribas and Citibank. This diversification has enabled the country to weather the effects of the slump in oil prices arguably more effectively than a number of other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.

The Bahrain legal market features domestic firms that handle the full range of services, as well as a number of international law firms. Most local law firms have established practices in dispute resolution, as only Bahraini nationals are able to appear before the courts. Larger local firms include Zu’bi & Partners, Attorneys & Legal Consultants and Hassan Radhi & Associates. Islamic finance is an important area of work for a number of international firms, particularly Islamic structured project finance and sukuk issuances.
