Dorda’s sizeable team, including a number of arbitrators, is ‘excellent’ at handling corporate and commercial disputes such as arbitration proceedings on co-operation, distribution and trade agreements. The team is headed by the recommended Florian Kremslehner and also includes Gunnar Pickl, who was promoted to counsel in 2017. Christoph Stippl left the firm in 2017 to take a career break.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer stands out for its commercial and investment treaty dispute expertise, routinely acting for major industry players and financial institutions across the CEE and SEE regions. In co-operation with the firm’s Frankfurt office, the team acted as lead counsel for EVN in ICSID arbitration proceedings against the Bulgarian state with regards to the Austria-Bulgaria bilateral investment treaty following Bulgaria’s application of a regulatory framework for electricity pricing. Wolf Theiss’ ‘strong’ team is experienced in investment arbitrations and corporate and commercial disputes involving construction, energy and telecommunication sector players across the CEE and SEE region. Baker McKenzie • Diwok Hermann Petsche Rechtsanwälte LLP & Co KG is a regular fixture in arbitration proceedings pertaining to investor-state and post-M&A disputes as well as energy and banking sector conflicts. Filip Boras represented the Austrian investor Georg Gavrilovic and the eponymous Croatian meat processing group in an ICSID proceeding against the Republic of Croatia pertaining to ownership rights. Alexander Petsche heads the team, while former co-head Stefan Riegler joined Wolf Theiss in November 2017.

CHSH Cerha Hempel Spiegelfeld Hlawati has a strong profile for post-merger disputes and arbitration proceedings in the construction and energy sectors. Irene Welser, who heads the team and also acts as an arbitrator, represented a company in the power plant construction industry in two ICC arbitrations pertaining to a consortium agreement. Benedikt Spiegelfeld is another key individual and Susanne Molitoris was appointed senior counsel in October 2017.

Knoetzl’s ‘committed and knowledgeable’ team is recognised for its broad offering, handling investment arbitrations alongside commercial, corporate and construction disputes. Emmanuel Kaufman and the ‘outstandingFlorian Haugeneder represented Casinos Austria International in an ICSID investment arbitration against the Argentine Republic pertaining to a gaming licence. In a separate matter, Haugeneder acted for the Austrian State Printing House in an ICC arbitration against the Republic of Kosovo pertaining to the termination of a long-term supply contract. The ‘very responsive’ team at Rechtsanwälte GmbH is particularly rated for its expertise in energy sector disputes and investment arbitrations, which leads to a regular flow of arbitrator appointments under VIAC, ICC and UNCITRAL rules. Graf & Pitkowitz has notable experience in representing energy sectors players, financial institutions and private clients in various commercial and corporate disputes, including post-M&A, contract and financial transaction conflicts. Nikolaus Pitkowitz heads the team.

Having the ability to think internationally’, Schoenherr (Schönherr Rechtsanwälte)’s ‘down-to-earth and hard-working’ team frequently acts in investor-state and commercial arbitration. Team head Christoph Lindinger represented the Austrian investor Kunsttrans and its Serbian subsidiary Kunstrans d.o.o.
