Put simply, Zang, Bergel & Viñes Abogados is the ‘undoubted market leader for real estate law in Argentina’. Lawyers’ ‘strong technical skills’, ‘peerless industry knowledge’ and ‘practical experience on deals’ all find favour with clients, and department co-heads Juan Manuel Quintana and Fernando Aguinaga are both highlighted as ‘absolutely excellent’. Seasoned partner Saúl Zang also remains a high-profile name in the market. The group routinely advises property owners, managers and developers on the full spectrum of real estate matters, including project development, the sale, purchase and lease of real estate, property management and financing structures. In a headline deal, the firm advised NS Desarrollos on the sale of an office building, which will be constructed by its Caseros subsidiary, to Mercado Libre. It also acted for Amzak on establishing the legal framework for its individual lease agreements. Other key clients are IRSA Propiedades Comerciales, Land Group and NH Hotels.

Beccar Varela houses a broad real estate and hospitality practice under the leadership of transactional real estate expert Pedro Nicholson. Areas of activity include property acquisitions and sales, project development, property finance and investment matters, and it also benefits from the wider firm’s administrative law expertise to advise on provincial and municipal approvals. Ongoing headline work saw the team continue to advise Carrefour on the development of the Al Río Project, and it also acted for Florida-based developer Related Group on the SLS Puerto Madero project, the company’s first investment in Argentina. Cohen, Eren Renewable Energy and The Rohatyn Group are also on the department’s books.

The ‘very efficient and prompt’, Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal routinely advises on sale and purchase transactions, leasing agreements, real estate finance and project development – it also possesses niche strength in agribusiness issues. Santiago Carregal has a ‘very good level of business acumen and industry knowledge’ and co-leads the department alongside Hernán Slemenson, who combines real estate prowess with robust finance and corporate expertise. Headline transactions include advising Safra Group on the development of a $250m office building in downtown Buenos Aires. The team also advised Hilton Hotels on the development, management and operation of a $50m hotel and golf resort in the city of Pilar. Diego Chighizola and Pablo Viñals Blake are recommended for finance and agribusiness matters respectively.

The team at Nicholson y Cano Abogados recently advised Baylac Wasserman Group on the establishment of a closed investment fund for the financing of real estate developments. It also advised an emerging technology company on the acquisition of a sizeable office block in the Parque Patricios IT district. Highly regarded sector specialist Agustín Pérez Cambiasso heads a practice that also counts La Dolfina Polo Ranch and DPA Developers as clients.

Baker McKenzie distinguishes itself through its ‘solid technical knowledge’ and ‘high-quality advice framed within a sound business context’. The group acts across all key areas of real estate, and has notable experience in acquisitions and disposals, property development, commercial leasing, property finance and tax issues. Alejandra Bugna heads the group and is a ‘strong negotiator, who is meticulous in every detail’; she recently paired up with ‘commercial and responsive’ office managing partner Gustavo Boruchowicz to advise Miñones on various construction, financing and lease matters.

Bruchou, Fernández Madero & Lombardi’s real estate practice is led by senior associate and corporate specialist Exequiel Buenaventura, who has a strong record in structuring real estate projects and transactions. The group kept busy advising on forestry acquisitions, major mixed-use development projects and energy-related matters during the past year. Highlights included advising Uruguayan real estate developer HCU, which owns the 5-star Carmelo Resort and Spa, on the termination its relationship with the Four Seasons and its subsequent rebranding negotiations with Hyatt.

At M & M Bomchil, real estate lead and M&A partner Laura Lavia Haidempergher maintains a broad practice, with experience in land acquisitions and sales, property investment and project development – significantly, she also leads the environmental law group. Departmental highlights include advising a local group on the construction of residential towers in the city of Rosario and on the development of an urbanisation project in Zárate. Other representative clients include Albwardy Investment, Bodegas y Viñedos La Esperanza and Franchino Negocios Inmobiliarios.

Pérez Alati, Grondona, Benites, Arntsen & Martínez De Hoz, Jr is known for its expert handling of land acquisitions and sales, commercial leases, project development and finance transactions. Guillermo Quiñoa heads the practice and recently advised Santander Río on the sale of an important piece of land in Buenos Aires, as well as on the construction of its new headquarters. Santiago Daireaux is noted for his reputation in agribusiness-related transactions and acted for El Tejar on the $55m sale of all of its real estate farming assets in Bolivia. Grupo Cencosud, Patagonia Brewing and Sura Seguros are also key clients.
