Irish GCs gain insight on how to structure teams in a time of disruption

15 March 2017, Dublin: Over 130 Heads of Legal and Senior Global Counsel from Ireland's leading companies met in in the Dublin offices of William Fry for the inaugural Ireland Trailblazers event.

The event, titled 'The general counsel as legal CEO - structuring your team in a time of disruption' saw Bjarne Tellmann - General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer at Pearson PLC – talk about his new book, Building an Outstanding Legal Team - Battle-Tested Strategies from a General Counsel and of his experience in the changing context of the role of GC and the hardware and software needed to effect this change.

Attendees also heard from a panel of leading Irish GCs including Peter O'Neill, Director and Associate General Counsel, Commercial – Facebook; Liz Davis, General Counsel – PwC Ireland; and Orla Dunlea, General Counsel – Endo International who talked about the key issues and challenges facing them in in the current climate.

Bjarne Tellmann, General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer of Pearson said 'The role of the general counsel has become one of the most complex, intense and challenging in today's corporate world. GCs must lead, unify and inspire diverse groups of people across the globe, reacting to disruptive challenges with ever-fewer resources.To succeed, GCs must become their own chief executives. They must lead, communicate, inspire, build cultures, manage talent, risk and quality control – all in addition to being good lawyers.'


Chairing the event, which was run by The Legal 500/GC magazine in association with William Fry, Catherine McGregor, Publishing Director and Editor in chief of GC magazine, said 'We are delighted to be presenting Bjarne's innovative thinking to the Irish in-house community.
