The recently inaugurated Torre Virreyes in Pedregal, Mexico City was the venue for the second Mexico GC Powerlist (Teams), which was launched on 6th April 2017. Once again we were fortunate enough to count on market leading firm Creel Garcia-Cuellar, Aiza y Enríquez Abogados as our sponsors.

After the success of the inaugural GC Powerlist Mexico, held at the Four Seasons in 2016, local interest in the series has grown considerably and we received a strong response to our nominations and research process. This enthusiasm was further reflected in the turn-out for the publication’s launch, where –despite a torrential downpour adding further complication to Mexico City’s infamous traffic– we were blessed with some 100-attendees. They, in turn, had the opportunity to listen to guest speaker Claudio X González, founder of ‘Mexicans against Corruption and Impunity’ (Mexicanos Contra la Corrupción y la Impunidad – MCCI). In a dynamic and impassioned presentation González unerringly delineated the profound costs of corruption on the social, economic and political fabric of the country. And while the picture he painted was disturbing, his speech was both astute and heartwarming. Corruption can be beaten – and indeed, must be beaten for Mexico to prosper; where better to spread this message than before an educated –and in many ways privileged– corporate counsel community who deal with legal matters, not least compliance and anti-money laundering, on a daily basis. Rodríguez was more explicit: how can we expect society to reject corruption if we, an educated elite, are not leading by example? Certainly the assembled guests were given considerable food for thought by a presentation that called them all –as individuals and as the representatives of their companies– to account.

Our thanks to all those who attended, including representatives of Abilia, AlphaCredit, Amazon, Arcos Dorados, BanBajío, BBVA Bancomer, Cinépolis, Citibanamex, Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Continental, Cotemar, Diageo, Engenium Capital, Engie, Eutelsat Americas, Evercore México, Faurecia, Fiat Chrysler, FINSA, Ford de México, General Motors Mexico, Giesecke & Devrient, Gruma, Grupo ADO, Grupo Aeroméxico, Grupo FRISA, Honeywell, IEnova, Impulsora del Desarrollo y el Empleo (IDEAL), JTI, LG Electronics, Linio, L'Oréal, Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA), MAPFRE, Microsoft, Nissan Mexicana, Peñoles, Pfizer, Philip Morris International, Praxair, SAP, Televisa, thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions, Toyota Motors and Vestas. In addition, we would like to express our gratitude to Claudio X González for his urgent and important presentation; and –once again– to sponsor firm Creel, García Cuella, Aiza y Enríquez Abogados, for their ongoing support since the initiation of the GC Powerlist series.

GC feedback

'Thank you for such a great time yesterday in the GC Powerlist: Mexico Teams 2017 - we'd be delighted to participate in future Legal 500 LatAm events'

'The event was great, I really enjoyed it. The presentation on corruption was very well structured (& the content is indeed scary); moreover, this project has helped me bond a lot with my team, they felt very proud of belonging and have been more energized since.'
