GC POWERLIST: ITALY TEAMS LAUNCH

On 28 September, The Legal 500 launched the inaugural edition of the GC Powerlist: Italy Teams, celebrating the achievements of the most prominent, powerful and influential in-house legal teams across Italy. In partnership with our sponsors, Toffoletto De Luca Tamajo e Soci, the reception was held at the iconic Palazzo Parigi in Milan, bringing together more than 120 of Italy’s best and brightest legal minds.

The selections were the result of a three-month long research process by The Legal 500’s dedicated client intelligence team. It collated hundreds of nominations from law firm partners and fellow in-house practitioners from both Italy and abroad, before narrowing down the field to the 100 legal teams identified, through a series of interviews, followed by quantitative and qualitative research. The full list of those included, ranging from the likes of Apple and Nestlé, through to Gucci and Banca Generali, can be found here.

The evening began with an introduction from GC magazine editor Alex Speirs, highlighting the achievements of those being celebrated, as well as the strides being taken by the Italian legal market over the previous 12 months. ‘The feedback I received from the client intelligence team spoke to the forward thinking and innovative methods being employed by legal teams across Italy, with a number of those truly at the forefront of progress globally,’ said Speirs. ‘Those included should feel very proud, as it’s truly a reflection of the excellent work that legal is doing to support business, and of course, the Italian economy.’

Franco Toffoletto, managing partner of Toffoletto De Luca Tamajo e Soci, followed Speirs in addressing those in attendance, speaking to the value that in-house practitioners bring to business from the perspective of private practice. Following the introductory addresses, four GCs (Federica Celoria, F.C. Internazionale Milano; Marco Lorefice, Edison; Simone Chini, Allianz; Andrea Bordogna, Repower) joined Speirs and Toffoletto on stage for a panel discussion, which explored the intricacies of managing a modern legal team, in addition to what may be on the horizon for legal teams in Italy in the near future.
