THE LEGAL 500 > EVENTS > GC POWERLIST: NORDICS TEAMS
OSLO: 3 NOVEMBER 2016
In Norway the celebration of the leading in-house teams was also an opportunity to consider the changing focus and importance of the in-house role.
The country’s leading in-house counsel gathered to mark the launch of The Legal 500 GC Powerlist Nordics: Teams at the offices of our partner, the leading Norwegian law firm, Selmer.
The evening was introduced by Ståle L. Hagen a partner at Selmer, who previously worked in-house and was able to bring his very pertinent impressions of the way the in-house legal function had increased in import over the last ten years.
Editor-in-chief of GC Magazine, Catherine McGregor spoke to esteemed former Telenor General Counsel Pal Wien Espen about this topic. Mr Espen gave his thoughts based on 16 years as general counsel and how the focus, remit and responsibilities had changed. Ms McGregor brought her perspectives from around the world on the global trends in regard to the shifting importance of the in-house team.
This provoked a stimulating discussion with the audience which focused on geographical differences in perception of the role, the impact of changing ways of working and the higher stakes for the general counsel role in particular.
