THE LEGAL 500 > EVENTS > GC POWERLIST: MIDDLE EAST TEAMS
DUBAI: 5 OCTOBER 2016
The first in-house teams edition of the GC Powerlist: Middle East was launched at an event in Dubai on Wednesday 5 October, with a champagne reception hosted at the Mint Leaf of London (Dubai), where 100 in-house lawyers came together to celebrate the very best of the region's in-house legal talent.
The GC Powerlist is a publication designed to highlight the those in-house teams that are truly making a difference to the companies they work for. A three month process of nominations, background research and interviews concluded in the selection of 100 in-house teams across the Middle East.
Included on the list are the key in-house lawyers for such brands as 3M, Abu Dhabi Power, Air Arabia, Carillion, Al-Jazeera, Barclays, Commercial Bank of Dubai, Citigroup, Dubai World, GE, Google, Honeywell, Jumeirah, Nakheel, Nestle, Oman Oil, PepsiCo, Qatar Railways Samsung, Siemens, Weatherford and Zain. The full list can be seen here.
David Burgess, Publishing Director of The Legal 500 welcomed the guests to the event, and remarked on the importance of such accolades to in-house lawyers, who traditionally have not been recognised and have often been reluctant at putting themselves forward, as critical to raising their visibility in the business. Husam Hourani, Managing Partner of Al Tamimi - the exclusive sponsor of the GC Powerlist: Middle East, spoke to the audience about the importance of quality and consistency in teams, both in-house and in private practice, and congratulated all who had made the final list.
One of the GCs who attended remarked, ‘This came as the most wonderful surprise to the team. To be recognised by such a widely respected and independent organisation as The Legal 500, which we have been using for over a decade, makes the recognition even sweeter. My CEO has already been in touch and congratulated the whole team, and I have a sense that our internal "customers" will be seeing us in a very different light’.
