ROME: 12 May 2016

The GC Powerlist series continues to highlight the leading GCs and in-house counsel, with Italy the latest jurisdiction to be covered. Launched in Rome on 12 May at a reception a stone's throw from the Spanish Steps, over 80 in-house lawyers came together to celebrate the very best of the Italian in-house legal talent.

Included on the list are the key in-house lawyers for such brands as Gucci, Ferrari, Maserati, Google, Furla, Versace, Pirelli, Amazon, Ducati, ENI, Fendi, Coca-Cola, Benetton and Shell. The full list can be seen here.

Maria Strada, Head of Commercial & Legal Italy, Greece and Israel at Fujitsu Technology Solutions, commented "I’m honored and proud that I was included in the first edition of the GC Powerlist for Italy and had a chance to meet a number of recognized GCs at the Reception hosted at the amazing Hassler Hotel in Rome."

Another of the guests sent a note saying - "many thanks again for your hospitality and organising a great event. I am already well respected within our organisation however this official recognition really does help to raise the profile (and awareness) of legal departments within Italian companies whose mentalities, although changing, are unfortunately still quite distant from US and UK counterparts. So please do keep up the good work!"

Federico Sutti, Managing Partner of Dentons Italy, who sponsored the GC Powerlist: Italy, welcomed the guests at the reception and congratulated the attendees on their inclusion on the list. He also noted that the past few years has seen the rise of importance of legal directories in helping to choose the right law firm. Modesty prevents us from saying which one he thought was the leading directory! David Burgess, The Legal 500's Publishing Director also addressed the guests, highlighting the need for GCs to communicate better with their businesses to improve the perception of the legal function and to be a more strategic partner for the businesses they work in.
