PARIS: 14 June 2016

The launch of the inaugural GC Powerlist for France took place on Tuesday 14th June, with a champagne reception hosted at DS Avocats’ offices in Paris. Over 60 general counsel attended the event to celebrate the very best of the French in-house legal talent.

The GC Powerlist initiative is based on an extensive research project, which aims to identify and recognise leading in-house counsel within a specific jurisdiction. The final list is compiled using a combination of nominations, background research, market knowledge and interviews. Almost 100 in-house lawyers were recognised in France after demonstrating their impact on their companies or wider industry.

Included on the list are key in-house lawyers for global brands such as AXA, Bouygues Telecom, Renault, Société Générale, Orange, Google, Air France, SNCF, Christian Louboutin, TF1 Group and Carrefour, along with many others. The full list can be seen here.

By providing in-house counsel with an opportunity to meet and network, the GC Powerlist seeks to raise current trends and issues in the market, empowering in-house to tackle these hurdles as a collective. In an article written by Guillaume Nonain, the GC of Brink’s and member of the Powerlist, he states: ‘As very rightly pointed out by DS Avocats’ Daniel Chausse in his [speech at the event] […] it is more than time for France to join the 18 other EU member states which grant Attorney-at-Law status to their in-house lawyers […] we do not want the “GC Powerlist” to become the “GC Powerless”: now is the time for the French legal community to move forward in the interest of all’.

Another general counsel commented: ‘Thanks so much for organising this event. I had a chance to exchange ideas with many of my peers and this was an excellent networking opportunity’.

Our thanks to DS Avocats who sponsored the GC Powerlist: France.
